This discussion deserves a separate thread. Derek saying there are 19 teams over budget really surprised me. We have a long (and good) history of keeping financials in order. There are actually rules preventing teams from going over budget. OOTP16 has introduced a new way of calculating financials, which makes it impossible for GM's to 'keep an eye on' other teams. Basically only Derek has access to every team's financial page. We concluded a while ago that the financial page we see on the league reports are not correct and can't be used to determine if there are teams over budget. For the sake of transparency, let's all post a screenshot of our in-game financial page. I'm not doing this to get teams punished or whatever, I just think we need to sort this out. We need to get back to how things were and figure out how we go about this going forward. Let me be the first (right click to get a bigger picture):

I think we need to let the game handle the financial side of things and stop micromanaging this. Especially since v16 has changed the way the game looks at certain figures.

That could be an outcome of this discussion, definitely. But at the moment we still have rules in place saying we can't be over budget. If there really are 19 teams over budget right now, well that sucks for the guys that have been following the rules. I could have signed more players as well if I wanted, but I couldn't afford them.

I had money available to sign free agents but I declined to sign in order to keep my projected budget in the green. I can't get to that screen here at work, but I am sitting on a +2.5 million projected budget right now. I brought this up in the off season issues to discuss thread but it did not get any traction. Also, I know the new financials are confusing but the projected budget remains the easiest to manage in my opinion. In the off season you can manage it with scouting budget and player development. During the season you can only manage it by taking on salary or trading away salary. It slowly increases during the year while players that received league minimum contracts spend time in the minors not collecting a pay check. That's about it. OOTP 16 may have changed what goes into the projected budget originally for your starting point but managing it has not changed.

Append: Just remembered that rookie signing bonuses and International Free Agents affect your projected budget during the season as well.

Sorry, another append. I know several GMs got blindsided by the scouting budget getting bumped up to 3.5 million by the game. That's something we may have to take into account this season. Just trying to get my forum post count up to 1,000

Reds have a +$9.5 projected.
Totally agree with the two previous posts.
I commented at the time that it wasn't right for teams to be that far over budget, so it will be interesting to see the totals later.
Some of this is due to the scouting budgets, but not all of it is.
My opinion is that we have rules, and if you're signing players and making trades then you can manage your budget as well.

In-game shows projected budget room, the right number. There is a difference between the two.

To be clear we are supposed to post what here, the projected budget room, the money for free agents what? Your not supposed to do anything, but if you want to, you can make a screen shot. Projected budget room is the number we are after.

I believe I'm about 7 mil over budget. That's because of the 7.5 mil the computer added to my scouting and development. I'm all for letting the game decide what you can't and can't do. If the financials are handled better, lets find out.
