I could swear we determined the Marlin's DIDN'T have an owner and so the Commish would make sure they signed their picks, if monetarily possible.

I think we may have just lost the Marlins at the wrong time. Looks like he was last online literally the day before I announced the draft. I looked back and we never identified Miami as one of the teams without a GM. I am guessing they probably were not on Derek's radar as needing help. We determined the Tigers and Angels needed help but we got those positions filled.

Or did you just already re-number this years picks that were unsigned?

I'm strongly against vacant teams losing picks, it doesn't seem quite right to punish a new owner for a previous ones inaction.

Can Derek manually sign them to the Marlins at this point or just give FLA additional picks next year?

Or did you just already re-number this years picks that were unsigned? Remember that Miami had two consecutive number one picks (Round 1-Pick 1 and Round 1-Pick 2) and two consecutive round two picks (Round 2-Pick 3 and Round 2 - Pick 4) last year. I believe the above is saying that Round 1-Pick 2 and Round 1-Pick 4 are canceled since they were comp picks from unsigned players in 2042 (Sorry Carter, Miami has been cursed with negligent GMs for a while now). Round 1-Pick 1 and Round 2-Pick 3 were "fresh" draft picks for lack of a better word, so they will be comped next year. And because they're being comped they go down one draft space and will turn into Round 1-Pick 2 and Round 2-Pick 4. Kind of confusing, but basically, it means Miami will get it's comp picks AND it's regular pick for next year. They'll still have 2 high picks in the top 12 of the first round for the next draft, one of which is assured to be the second overall pick. It would be better if they could get the prospects the previous owner didn't sign from 2043, but I think it's too late at this point to get those players to Miami. Just mechanically I don't think there's a way to make it happen. But if Miami wins the first overall pick in the draft in this year's lottery I think the article I wrote last year will still apply for 2044: My Draft Hot Take.

Guess it's too late to get my Rounds #1-#6 draft picks back from 2040, eh? Shame.

Rockies take was right on the money. Marlins had consecutive picks, one comp and one not, high in both rounds 1 and 2. No picks were signed. The unsigned comps were forfeited and the others get a comp pick next season. Marlins disappearance was unfortunate timing. They literally logged on the last time the day before the draft began. We did not have them tagged as a vacant team during the signing period. It does suck that the Marlins organization is out a couple of high draft picks. I, for one, would be open to allowing some kind of extra compensation. But just giving those picks back won't help too much. They will already have high picks to sign next season and I would be surprised if they have enough cash available to sign many more. Maybe we could give them an extra pick in the supplemental round? Maybe picks in rounds 6 & 7 that do not require a signing bonus? Or, it's just an extra obstacle the new GM can embrace to make him that much more of a badass when he builds a winner
