We have quite a bit of new blood in the league this year. For those of you just coming in, please review this post and bring up any questions or concerns.
We will draft the first two rounds here on the boards. There is a 24 hour time limit for round one and 12 hour for round two. This time limit only applies if I have not heard anything from the team on the clock. I will be happy to grant extensions. Just keep me informed. At the end of the time limit I will auto pick for you. If you plan on receiving an auto pick please inform me so we can keep the draft moving. Do not be the guy that gets the timed out auto pick. That is bad juju. On the other hand, submitting short lists to me prior to when your pick is up keeps the draft moving and is very good juju. Throw some currency into the karma piggy bank. Yay for short lists. Boo for timed out auto picks.
I will do my best to notify GMs when their pick is coming up (I usually do a pretty good job). Try to keep an eye on the boards as it is ultimately the team's responsibility to know when they are on the clock.
Draft picks are available to be traded up until the time that pick is on the clock. Picks on the clock cannot be traded.
The auto pick list is generated by the Padres scout in game. I ask my scout to generate a list and that is what I auto pick from. Caution. The in pick scout ain't all that smart.
There will be a thread titled "Players picked by last name". Go ahead and quick check the availability of your guy there to avoid the embarrassing "Player has already been picked" pick attempt.
Draft pool was just revealed. We will give everyone a few days to do some analysis and kick the draft off Wednesday.
Any draft related questions or concerns send me a PM or bring them up here.

Can you give some information on the difference between "draft budget" and "Recommended Draft Slot Amounts?"

Draft Budget is the amount the owner has budgeted for you to spend on signing bonuses. Players drafted in the first 5 rounds will require a signing bonus. If your Money For Free Agents is green, you can add that number on top of your Draft Budget to use for signing bonuses.
I am not sure exactly where you are seeing "Recommended Draft Slot Amounts". But each pick in the first 5 rounds has an associated recommended slot bonus. That number, as expected, declines with each pick. Some players will show SLOT as their bonus demand. Others will show a number. You will likely have to spend at least the higher of those two numbers to sign a player.

Advice for newbies on the whole "slot" business. Teams sometimes will get irritated because they will offer a guy what his signing bonus demands are and he won't sign. If the player's signing bonus demand is 250k, but he gets drafted where the recommended slot bonus is 800k, you are significantly lowballing him in your attempt to "meet demand." In general, go with the higher number when in doubt. This helps greatly to curb draftees not signing.

Round 2 has now begun. Pick time limits are reduced from 24 hours to 12. Let's keep those short lists coming!

This draft has been pretty rough. We have seen more timed out auto picks than any draft I can remember. As a result we are now up to draft day in game and still needing about 20 picks to complete round 2.
If you have a pick in round 2 please consider sending in a short list. Even if you are far away from your next pick, send in 4-5 names. Odds are you will get one.
If you are going to be away please make arrangements ahead of time by sending in a list or requesting the auto pick so we don't have to wait for the pick to time out before moving on.
We all want to get back to simming. Lets hammer the rest of this out quickly and efficiently.
For reference, here are the remaining picks.
15 Twins (Comp) 16 Mariners 17 Padres (Comp) 18 Phillies 19 Rockies 20 Warhounds (from Padres) 21 Orioles (from Athletics) 22 Rays 23 Giants 24 Angels 25 Diamondbacks 26 Rays (Comp) 27 Warhounds 28 Nationals (from Marlins) 29 White Sox 30 Nationals (from Marlins from Indians) 31 Reds 32 Orioles 33 Warhounds (from Red Sox) 34 Pirates

Whats sad, is this is the best pool weve seen in 10+ seasons.
I highly recommend next season once the draft starts, no trading picks in that round. So once the 1st round starts, all first round picks are off limits. That would stop teams from trying to trade their picks while on the clock.

As I understood it, once you were on the clock the pick was untradable anyway. So, there's no real way that trying to arrange a trade is the thing which is causing people to time out with their pick. I think folks are just less on top of things than usual.

I think folks are just less on top of things than usual. Trading picks isn't the issue, board activity is. I do agree with that. Actually I am going to retreat from my earlier comments. I was looking at last years draft. We are actually only running one day longer than we did last season. I think the speed we have been simming at lately is the real culprit. We have only had, what, two or maybe three days off since we started the draft? In other words, maybe there is nothing that needs to be fixed here. As far as the picks, Rockies are correct. Picks on the clock are untradable. This is not a new rule.

Players drafted in the previous draft and future picks cannot be traded until after the world series either.
That being said, it has been allowed the past few seasons. I really don't see how this is any different.
