I'm looking for feedback on the GotW. I'm leaning towards not doing it next season as I didn't get as many responses as I'd liked. While, the people who were involved in the games were usually active, there was little interest from people whose teams weren't involved. While most of that is expected, I wanted the thread to be a place where the league could gather and talk about that one game.
I picked up a lot of negative criticism of not getting every team involved, but at the end of the year, only seven teams weren't selected. Of those seven teams, only the A's lost fewer than 91 games. Five of the seven teams were 94-game loses, and four lost at least 98 contests.
Also, except for Sean (bless his heart), I received little help with the event on days I was busy. It takes a bit of time to get this done with the fast sims we have. I'd like to have a team of two other people to do this on days I'm too busy to get it done. It isn't that often, but maybe seven times a year, I'm scrambling to get this done and could use a hand.
Other than that, questions, comments, criticisms are fair game. Would you like to see the GotW come back next year? What would get you involved aside from your team being involved?

I don't think I ever commented on one, not because my team wasn't involved (we certainly didn't deserve to be--no gripes there), but because I don't tend to focus on individual games when I look at OOTP. I read the weekly reports and take note of who did well and occasionally check some box scores. I'm so fixated on trying to make adjustments to my own team that I don't pay much attention to strategic match ups taking place elsewhere in the league. I don't think there's anything wrong with the GOTW idea, it's just not something that draws my personal interest. I try to stay active on the boards by publishing my A's blog rants and Q&A's with the GM.
What might draw more interest is doing something like player of the week/month type awards. Or perhaps there could be a spotlight on an individual team from each league per sim--sort of a Q&A on the state of that team at the particular time a sim is going down. If everyone was on the hot seat at least once a season, they'd probably be more inclined to keep up with it. Just some thoughts.

I really enjoy them. I hope you keep doing it. Near the end of the season it is to be expected to have a lot of the same teams, but I think overall it could benefit from more of a variety of teams. If every team goes at least once and if the ones that goes more than others aren't so close to each other it probably would get more interest.
I know the week you had me up there I didn't respond but I was out of town and posted myself as out of town, so that might happens sometimes too.

I'd like to see GoTW, or some version of it, back next season (and I'd really like to see Power Rankings articles back).
Although GotW threads may not have received many comments (like most articles we write on the forum) they are read a lot and really add to the sense of 'immersion' in the league.
A couple of recommendations for next year -
- Announce the GotW games for the first half of the season prior to the season starting, with an aim of having all teams appearing equally. After the All-Star break games can be chosen by their importance to the standings but I don't think market size should make any difference. - PM GMs when they have a GoTW coming up - a few times GMs have missed that they're up - Have those GMs who want to contribute and answer questions on their teams etc' sign up at the start of the season. Some GMs have no interest in writing on the site, which is fine, but they shouldnt have games featured in GoTW.
I'll volunteer to write up some of next years GoTW threads... I've had a down season when it comes to writing about the league in general but I'll pick it up again next year.... and I'd urge anyone who enjoys reading articles on the site to respond when they read something they like, even if it's just to say 'I read this' otherwise it can feel like you're only writing for yourself!

I can't do the power rankings with the sim speeds we have. Remember, the season I did the power rankings, we were only simming three times a week. Plus it was summer, I wasn't working then, and I was living at home (AKA, not grocery shopping, or spending two hour commutes just to meet up with friends) so my free time was exponentially more available. Right now, I'm free---my last day of work at my school is this Saturday, but I should have an interview sometime next week with Sirius XM. I'm waiting for a friend of mine who works there to give my resume/cover letter a brief look through and then I send everything out. His boss said I'm guaranteed an interview and I'm sure I'll get the job, so I should lose some free time in August. Still, I should have time to get a season of power rankings done, but only if we cut back the sim speeds a little, and that's something the league doesn't want to do. We simmed the month of April this season in like five days. There's no way I can keep up with that. Same thing with the second half of the season. Believe me, I'd LOVE to do the power rankings, but I can't with that pace. As to the GotW points...I did map out the first two months of the season last year, and no team had more than three games before the All-Star Break. Market size has a very small affect (player popularity is the big one, and I do like that such an afterthought of a ranking has some importance in the league. I really don't want to change that. Plus, records became much more important for the second half. It does look though that people want to see every team involved. I do like the PM and sign up ideas so GM's who are very busy/don't care can take themselves out of the picture.

GOTW is difficult to write because of the sim speeds and it's tough for everyone to participate aswell. I wouldn't miss it if it were gone. Erick you could do something like a "this week in baseball" and write about the league sim if you still want to write articles. I think that would get major participation because we could read info around the league and respond with our own input.

I like the GOTW I tried to participate as much as I could! I'm not as good a writer as you guys or I would help out more. I do think a lot of GM's are reading the thread's but just not commenting on them as much.
I don't know if this would really peak the interest of the games but do they always have to fall on the first day of a sim? I know some of the times I thought games later in the week would have been a little more interesting or would have had a better pitching match up excreta.
I also like the Idea Sean brought up with "this week in baseball" but me not being a writer its totally up to you guys.

A player can come in riding a hot streak and then go 0-20 during the week. Talking about how hot the player is could be silly. Likewise, injuries and other things can happen.

I love the in depth reports on the teams but I think that it may be far too much work for one man to do! With my new league formation I decided to do a GOTW but didn't want to copy the PBL. I tried to think of something very different. Mine is alot less work but a lot less detailed obviously. www.primetimeba.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gotw

I think GotW was great, but with the pace of the sims I found myself scan reading them more than reading them properly. What was there was brilliant and I enjoy them, but I think I would prefer either less frequent or if the sim pace slows then the same.
I really like the monthly predcitions/power rankings as an alternative, all teams would be involved and can comment, and predictions for the next month can be checked back pretty quickly. I understand that a monthly review may be way too much for one man to do for 30(+?) teams though
