[shadow=red,left,300]Chicago White Sox (32-33) @ Seattle Mariners (38-27)[/shadow]
CHW: Chad Rogers (1-6, 3.86 ERA)
SEA: Jake McGee (4-2, 4.77 ERA)
Coming into the White Sox and Mariners three-game set, the White Sox were down and out in the AL Central while the Mariners were cruising along out West. What a difference a series makes.
Chicago has taken the first two games of their three-game set, and in turn, has pulled to within six games back in the division. Seattle meanwhile has missed a golden chance to pull away from scuffling Houston, who still sit two games back.
Chicago used a relentless offensive attack to win Saturday's game. Gian Guzman came up with runners on base four times. He came through with three hits, three RBI's, plus a bizzare sacrifice bunt. The two times he came up with the bases empty, he walked. His double in the 10th set up a two-out, two-run single by Tony Abreu that proved to be the game winner in a 10-8 win. The Mariner pen allowed five runs in 5.1 innings in the loss.
Sunday belonged to Brock Kjeldgaard as the BK Broiler smashed a first-inning grand slam and drove in six runs total in a 7-2 White Sox win.
While reinforcing impressions of Chicago's offense, the two contests have exposed Seattle's pitching staff as the Mariners have not been able to stymie the White Sox bats this season, except when Felix Hernandez has pitched. Jake McGee will get his chance today, but with a 4.77 ERA, the White Sox are likely going to be looking to feast.
Chicago will counter with Chad Rogers, a rookie seeing his first big league action at 27. He's pitched well, mostly in relief, the past two seasons and will see a start against Seattle. He's a lefty, which will help against Seattle's heavily left-hand slanted lineup, though the Mariners still possess right-handed Ryan Braun to pound away on lefty pitching.
Questions for the GM's. For Jason Wilson, how confident are you in Rogers working against Seattle? He's a lefty with some decent results, yes, but scouts don't look at him as more than a fifth-starter type and the Mariners can bash the ball.
You decided to bunt with Guzman earlier in the series. Will that tactic be used tonight?
Sean Rodriguez still looks banged up with a shoulder injury. Who is going to start in his place and what do you look for out of that player?
For Sam East, Ryan Braun has surprisingly struggled against lefties this year. Are you concerned at all?
You haven't been able to stop the White Sox offense all season. What does McGee need to do to change that?
The White Sox are an extremely right-handed team. Does that affect anything you do with McGee at all?
