I think we should also PM the commish our votes for first/second/and third place. These threads will just be for the leaders of each category.

Is there a reason Pedro Figueroa isn't even on the ballot? I'd think being 3rd in league ERA and in the top 5 in several other categories and sporting a 33.3 VORP would at least merit being in the conversation.

Team success and not being in the top five of WHIP, FIP, VORP, Strikeouts, or wins. I think everybody I selected has two top five positions in ERA, WHIP, FIP, VORP, Strikeouts, and wins. Also, everybody was on a team that was over .500 except Pelfrey, whose team was one win away from .500 and led the league in ERA.

So to be in the conversation a player has to be lucky enough to play for a winning team? I don't like that at all.
Consideration for an individual award should have nothing to do with how the team as a whole performed. Who else got left off because their team sucked?

Consideration for an individual award should have nothing to do with how the team as a whole performed. Who else got left off because their team sucked? To form a tiebreaker between a number of underwhelming competitors, team success is looked at. Let's look at how Figueroa stacks up. His ERA is impressive, and his other best stats include opponents average and hits allowed. That's canceled out by the fact that he's allowed the fourth most walks in the AL. In the main stats I look at (ERA, VORP, FIP, WHIP, K's, Wins), he has only one appearance, and that's in ERA. He's sixth a few times, but I use five as a cutoff or else the pool of candidates expands too much. Note, with the exception of wins, these stats are mostly team-interdependent. Pelfrey leads in ERA and Vorp, plus is among the jumble for third in wins. Mitchell is second in ERA and VORP. Verlander is fourth in WHIP, fourth in K's, and doesn't have an unseemly ERA. Beckett is fourth in ERA, third in wins, third in VORP, and fourth in FIP. Lackey is first in wins, fourth in VORP. Hernandez is first in FIP, second in K's, third in wins. Hughes leads in WHIP, is second in FIP, is third in K's, and is third in wins. Jimenez leads in wins, and is third in FIP. Harrison is fifth in FIP. Niese is second in WHIP, fifth in VORP, third in wins. With Harrison vs Figueroa, I rewarded Harrison for being on a better team.

Also, I have no problems with write-in votes. If you want to write in Figueroa, I'd have no issues with it.
