GoTW: Texas Rangers @ Seattle Mariners
In a surprising start to the season, neither Seattle nor Texas has surged to the front of the AL West. Instead, the unlikely Angels hold that spot.
Both the Rangers and Mariners have disappointed to start the season, Seattle arguably a bit more so with a sub .500 record. But its what it looks like in October that counts, not May.
Seattle's pitching appears to be holding them back, with today's starter, Jimenez, with the highest ERA he's had in years (not looking good for a contract year). Seattle's bullpen has been no better, with the 11th best ERA in the AL. The bats have been struggling to keep the Mariners from falling too far behind in the division early.
With the pitching struggles in Seattle, going against a top 3 AL offense may feel a bit like looking down the gun barrel. This series could indicate how the division will go in coming months as Texas starts to heat up winning 5 of their last 7.
However, Colby Lewis can be hit. With a 4.7 FIP on the year, he is the benefactor of strong defense, managing to keep an ERA just a shade over 4.
The real question will be whether or not Seattle's pitching can stop the Texas stampede.
Question for Seattle: Nervous about your pitching yet? Or just waiting for the averages to kick in as you have been slightly unlucky with the balls in play.
Question for Texas: Do you think your pitching can be good enough to win the division even without Matzek? And are you going to look for any pitching help at the deadline?
sorry for the short and kind of obvious right up, it was kinda short notice.
