What exactly do these "ratings" mean? How are the defending world series champions who are 19-12... 2nd best record in the NL behind teams that are under .500?

What exactly do these "ratings" mean? How are the defending world series champions who are 19-12... 2nd best record in the NL behind teams that are under .500? I looked at some of the factors and came up with a preliminary "marketability" index as to which teams would get preference for Games of the Week. Looking at National Popularity, I gave players with Extremely Popular ratings a 10, players with Very Popular a 7, Popular players a 5, Well Known players a 3, and Fair players a 1. I then adjusted for market size adding 10 for Astronomical, 9 for Huge, 7 for Very Big, 6 for Big, 5 for Rather Big, 3 for Above Average, 2 for Average, 1 for Below Average, 0 for Small, and -1 for Tiny (sorry Captain Nemo) The preliminary Marketability Ratings are as follows: Texas: 77 Boston: 64 Tampa Bay: 63 Yankees: 63 Colorado: 56 Philadelphia: 56 Cubs: 54 (these seven teams will be featured the most on the 2014 GotW) Seattle: 51 Dodgers: 51 Cincinnati: 46 -------------------- St. Louis: 46 San Francisco: 45 Kansas City: 45 Washington: 43 Pittsburgh: 42 Minnesota: 39 Houston: 35 Milwaukee: 34 Atlanta: 33 Baltimore: 33 --------------------- Oakland: 33 White Sox: 32 Arizona: 31 Detroit: 27 Cleveland: 26 Mets: 23 San Diego: 20 (these bottom three teams will need to be playoff teams late in the year to have even one Game of the Week) Toronto: 17 Angels: 14 Miami: 13 These numbers are preliminary and obviously free agency will add to some teams' ratings. I'll do another tally during Spring Training. This index will be weighted about 50% for which teams get chosen, with team records being the other 50%. No team will be chosen for GotW more than 8 times. I have a feeling I'm the only one hyped about this Game of the Week deal, but I think it will be a lot of fun for the GM's involved.

Yep, I announced this is an earlier thread that Sean copy/pasted from. Every month I'll update in case players go on the DL for a month or more, come off the DL within a month, or become more or less popular midseason.

Any system that excludes 3 teams from an opportunity to be included is seriously flawed. Oh how nice it is to be the manager of a big market team.
I want to hear from a range of managers rather than the same ones week after week.

I want to hear from a range of managers rather than the same ones week after week. Oh how nice it is to have one GotW, and maybe one more at most the rest of the season considering my team won't warrant many further inclusions in the GotW. As the season goes on, record becomes much more of a selling point. If I can't sustain that, I'll have to hope I'm facing the Dodgers, the Dodgers will have to be good, and the rest of the possible games would have to be weak. Also, given that we've had only one repeat GotW participant (the defending champion Braves no less) and you've made zero comments in any GotW thread, are you interested in hearing from any range of managers? And I went through the PBL Pick'Em threads from 2013. There were 10 Pick'Ems. You participated in one of them. If I create a feature that isn't "seriously flawed," are you even going to participate in it? Finally...if it's killing you to know how the Padres or Marlins are doing, you could just ask the guys? I'm sure Kenny and Bill will offer up tidbits to their team if prompted. The fact is that everybody will get bored with teams that aren't their own (except me, and apparently Sean and Tom). This WILL peter out as the year goes on any people will stop being interested. Also, as teams realize they aren't making the playoffs and become more casual with checking the boards, updating the teams, etc, mediocre teams might not even contribute to the GotW. Part of the appeal of this is the selection process. At least I'll be entertained even as the rest of the PBL eventually tunes out. That keeps me on my toes and prevents this from turning to the Pick 'Em where we were only getting a Pick'Em done every two or three sims at the end.

I'm so sorry to have offended you champ.
I would love to participate more right now, but I have a ton of work and a week old daughter to take care of. Still I read the comments in the short breaks I have and enjoy reading what you and others have written.
But the original point still stands. Some managers who might want to take part in this are excluded for no reason other than they have a small market team and are not easily able to compete season after season after season. But, if you think thats ok... as you were.

I'm one of the 3 teams, and I really don't have a problem with it. We've had one winning season in the last 4. This is the result. Sometimes you need to earn it.

Let's not forget a big part of the reason the Pick'ems died, was an uninterested host. My unwillingness to continue them is what REALLY killed the Pick'ems.
