[shadow=red,left,300]Tampa Bay Rays (80-57) @ New York Yankees (75-62)[/shadow]
TB: Jair Jurrjens (13-7, 4.35 ERA)
NYY: Fausto Carmona (7-10, 4.77 ERA)
The disappointing Tampa Bay Rays have had a rough second half of the season, that saw them drop out of first place on Monday. A easy stretch against the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles saw them rebound, but tonight brings them another tough opponent in the New York Yankees.
After another losing series to the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees are close to panic mode. They're 3.5 games behind Boston for the wild card, and 5 behind Tampa Bay for the AL East. Roughly half of the Yankees remaining games are against the dregs of the AL East, but the other half are against postseason contenders in Boston, Tampa Bay, and Seattle. The Yankees will need to take their share of games against those teams to reenter the postseason, and they'll have to start soon.
The Yankees showed some heart in coming back from two late deficits to win Saturday's game against Boston, but Sunday saw a return to the default script as the team blew a three-run ninth inning lead on three walks and three singles. They need to erase the sting of that game against Tampa Bay
Fausto Carmona has struggled this year, and he'll have to face an extremely balanced Rays lineup that has nine hitters hitting 12 home runs or more. With the Yankees bullpen shattered by Sunday's debacle, they'll need Carmona to put together an impressive performance to rebound from Boston.
They'll take on the ever steady Jair Jurrjens. Though Jurrjens hasn't had his best season, he's still 13-7 with an ERA right at league average.
Questions for the GM's. For E.J. Joseph, you took a risk signing Adam Dunn, but he's really mashed the ball this season. Are you happy with the signing and will you look to pick up his option?
You struggled in August. What was the cause of your team's poor play?
You're kind of the quiet team among the AL East triplets. Is that more of a matter of letting your performance do the talking?
For Sean Kemplar, it's now or never. How will your team rebound from such a depressing Sunday loss?
Rajai Davis is giving the team little at the plate. Do you look to make a change to jump start your team?
Fausto Carmona has pitched much better for you than for Minnesota. Any reason for the difference?
