Since I couldn't get around to previewing last week's Pick'em, this week will see a double helping! The Astros-Pirates tilt will be the appetizer worth one point, while whoever picks the Indians-Royals game will get a point and get to choose the next contest. In other words, two games will be picked this week!
Houston (20-24, 8-13 Road) vs. Pittsburgh (23-21, 10-13 Home)
Projected Starters:
Hou: B. Cecil (1-2, 4.93 ERA)
Pit: D. McCutchen (6-0, 2.56 ERA)
The Pirates are right on schedule and are playing winning baseball as of late May. While it was expected that the Pirates offense would carry them, their hitters have been in the middle of the pack in most categories. Instead, the Pirates have gotten outstanding pitching, including four starters with ERA's under three.
Daniel McCutchen is one of those starters, and he's been fantastic with a 6-0 record and a 2.56 ERA. He'll take on a plucky Astros team that has an anemic offense. Aside from Yohachi Yamamoto and Lonnie Chisenhall, nobody is hitting. Yamamoto is one of the best stories in baseball, and he'll need a strong day to beat McCutcheon who has turned into a dependable starter.
Kansas City (24-20, 7-13 Road) vs. Cleveland (27-16, 12-8 Home)
Projected Starters:
KC: C. Wang (3-4, 3.22 ERA)
Cle: C. Carrasco (2-0, 3.13 ERA)
Two of the top teams in the Central, Kansas City squares off against an Indians team that it's only 2-4 against. The Royals are coming off an impressive sweep over the Braves. The Royals' pitching dominated, holding the Braves to single runs in each of the three games, while Billy Butler went 4-12, with 4 runs, 2 homers, and 6 RBI's.
The Indians will continue to ride Carlos Santana from their end. They just locked him up with a massive eight-year contract hoping he can continue the massive production he's accumulated the past two seasons. He's hitting .314 to start the year with seven home runs and 28 RBI's. Not bad for a catcher.
