05/07/12 Oakland Athletics (16-9) at Texas Rangers (17-9) Projected Pitchers: OAK: Brett Anderson (3.50 ERA, 2-2) BOS: Chien-Ming Wang (3.75 ERA, 2-2)
As the first month of PBL baseball comes to an end, several interesting story lines have popped up. One of the more interesting cases, has been the saga of the AL West. Once thought to be a lock for the Mariners, the AL West has found itself realigned, with Texas emerging as a PBL superpower. The Oakland A's have been just as surprising, going 16-9 to start the season.
Oakland will trot ace Brett Anderson out on Monday night, hoping that their AL 3rd ranked pitching staff can fend of the big bats of Arlington. Anderson is coming off a disappointing start against the Kansas City Royals, in which he gave up 6 ER in 6.0 innings, including two home runs. In the tight confines of Texas, Anderson must keep the ball out of the air, lest he repeat his performance against KC.
The Rangers send out number two starter Chien-Ming Wang to face the A's. Texas boasts the league's number one ranked pitching staff, to accompany their overlooked 8th ranked offense. After starting the season with two consecutive complete games, Wang has been winless in his past three starts, and will look to bounce back against the Athletics.

Texas beats Oakland 5-3 in our least participated in PBL Pick'em yet.
Which is a shame, because that means people missed out on a doozy of a game. Chien-Ming Wang and Brett Anderson locked horns for 7 strong innings, before Anderson finally gave way in the 8th. Oakland struck first in the opening frame, with Ryan Sweeney belting the second pitch for a single only to have Alex Gordon double him home two pitches later. Fans groaned throughout Texas, but Wang was able to settle down and out-duel Anderson for the W.
Anderson had an otherwise strong outing ruined by a 2 run 7th, which broke up a 3-3 tie. Matt Brown led off the 7th with a leadoff homerun, sending a 2-1 fastball 374 ft into the left-field seats. Anderson would give up another run before getting out of the inning, and was pulled in the 8th after giving up a 1-out single to Ian Kinsler.
Tanner Scheppers came in to pitch for Texas in the 9th and took only 9 pitches to record the save, including two strikeouts.

Rays and Mariners tie in run differential... First time this has happened in PBL Pick'em history!!! *rubs hands gleefully*
Rays MVP: Ian Kinsler Mariners MVP: Matthew Brown
Kinsler and Brown tie at 1 RBI a piece, so it goes to the next tie-breaker; runs.
Brown edges Kinsler in runs, 2-0, giving the Mariners the win! Let me know what next week's game is gonna be, Sam.

woohoo! I rock at this game....
Next pick 'em game should be a good one - the SF Giants going down to LA to take on their hated rivals the Dodgers.
Lincecum vs. Billingsley, and both teams have had excellent starts to the year (is there any argument that the NL West is the toughest in baseball btw?!)

I'm sure the AL East will argue with you there...
