Before we look into the 2058 season, one last look at our 2057 list to see how 2058 treated them. All ratings are potential, we don't let the cold hard facts of current ratings into this discussion.
1. 1B Rob Dotson - Reno (AAA)/MLB Arizona
Went .328/.396/.561 in 103 games at Reno before being called up, going .317.388/.542 in 40 games and helping Arizona to their WS appearance and earning Series MVP honors. Not a bad year. Contact down a notch but everything else is the same. 68 year old James Anderson still has him high in his top 400.
Contact: 7 Gap: 7 Power: 10 Eye: 9 K Pot: 10
2. SP Jessy Coenraadts - Kingport (Rookie) NY Mets
Stuff improved as he added a whopping 5 mph in velo. Walked a ton and served up gopher balls in the hitter friendly App League. Ended the season well as he gave up only 2 earned runs in his final 5 appearances.
Stuff: 9 Movement: 4 Control: 8 CurveBall : 9 Slider: 9
3. SP Jose Esparza - Int Complex Wash.
Spend all year in IC. OSA upped their project from a 2.5 to a 3.5 star prospect as he stuff is now a 10, but they think he is ultimately a reliever. The changeup might be magical given the 10 stuff rating and the fact his heater is only 88 mph.
Stuff: 10 Movement: 5 Control: 8 Slider : 8 Changeup: 10
4. 1B Jim Stout - MLB Arizona
Posted a 91 OPS+ in 102 starts for Arizona in what would be his rookie season. The Diamondbacks are looking for more this season, but rumor has it he or Dotson may not be with the club much longer
Contact: 6 Gap: 8 Power: 8 Eye: 8 K: 5
5. P Ricardo Valdez - Southern Maryland (Rookie) Carolina
Walked a ton at Rookie before going to low A and walking even more. Still dripping with tons of potential, if he learns command it will be lights out.
Stuff: 8 Movement: 7 Control: 7 Slider : 9 Changeup: 8 Curveball: 8 Fastball/Forkball: 7
Let's see who out 2058 candidates are. Criteria is potential attribute changes from Nov 2057 - Nov 2058
1. Gonzalo Crespo NWL Twins (Low A) Minn
The mostly glove first SS made big improvements in the hit tool and eye department and is now in camp with the big league club. He in on his way to holding the SS position for the Twins.
Contact: 6 Gap: 7 Power: 4 Eye: 6 K: 9
2. Roberto Castro CF IC Montreal
He jumped from low level prospect to an average major leaguer, which is not bad for a 19 year old. Nice range and a cannon for an arm.
Contact: 5 Gap: 8 Power: 7 Eye: 6 K: 5
3. Andres Garcia SP IC LA Angels
Good year to be playing video games as this is the second low Work Ethic player along with Castro. Went from a total non-prospect to mid-tier.
Stuff: 7 Movement: 4 Control: 8 Fastball : 7 Curveball: 8 Slider: 8
4. Neil Pittman 2B Jacksonville (R) NY Yankees
Pittman has the high Eye rating the former GM looked for and did make good progress in 2058. However, it was as a 23 year old in Rookie ball so it will be interesting to see how he progresses has he climbs the ladder.
Contact: 5 Gap: 6 Power: 4 Eye: 9 K: 7
5. Darrell Ricks RP Bluefield(R) Bal
The 6th round pick from the 2058 draft did not pitch in 2058. OSA loves him and is banking on the changeup developing. He has low work ethic, which might explain why he graduated high school at 21.
Stuff: 8 Movement: 6 Control: 7 Fastball : 7 Changeup: 9 Splitter: 6
