While I can never substitute for the original*, I love this article so much that I'll throw it up as a poor replacement.
1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
4. What are you the most excited about this season?
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
7. What is your timetable on a championship?
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series?
This article series, 'Media Days' is the invention and intellectual property of John. Not me John. Baltimore John. Better looking John (I'm assuming).

1. What lessons did you learn from last season? Defense is important. In 2053 I suddenly came to the realization that two of my most important infielders had utterly forgotten how to play their respective positive. The ZR lost by those two players (-21.7 by Shi-Ping Zha and Yeijiro Eida -18.6) was astonishing. I am convinced that they are the reason I vastly underplayed my potential this year.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add? Probably Albert Hernandez. If only to make the Rangers unhappy.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose? Zha. Despite his poor fielding I will miss Eida's bat. Also, Walt Woodland had a sudden skill drop that made him kind of overpriced.
4. What are you the most excited about this season? I think we have a solid platoon of outfield bats, a strong defensive infield, and Ray Gruamach behind the plate framing the pitches. I think the combination of those things really kicks my rotation into high gear.
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason? Kind of. The Angels put up a strong showing last year, and since I can't compete with them in young prospect talent, I had to compete in free agency. Whenever I do that I always put a premium on making sure the contracts end before I start to regret them. I think I was able to pull off a couple of those this season, though time will tell what Paul "Doss Mall" Doss, and Ramon Gonzales have left in the tank.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something. I'd do following in descending order of interest: 1) Jim King 2) Brady Henderson 3) Oliver de Kok
7. What is your timetable on a championship? I think the Rockies, as currently arranged, have until the end of Duane Hansen's contract to make another shot. After that there's going to be a realignment, and I have no idea how that will turn out.
8. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series? I'm going to pretend this is in a world where the Rockies don't exist. Rangers vs. Padres. In a world where the Rockies do exist: The Rockies would manage to play against themselves. Yes. That's right. We'd be the first team in PBL history to win the AL and NL Pennants simultaneously. Who'd win the World Series? It'd be a toss up.

1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
Similar to Colorado, defense does matter. It'd be nice to have another Ace on the roster, but the free agent pool didn't shake out that way. I didn't think Henry Alexander was worth the investment.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
Gerald Callahan without a doubt. Some might say an overpay, but he is an upgrade to our team. This signing was part of a larger plan to transition into life after some of my older players leave/retire.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
The loss of Howard Nichols helped relieve a large salary burden that shifted to younger players acquired in the off-season.
4. What are you the most excited about this season?
Winning the NL Central again, and then seeing what happens in the playoffs.
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
The state of the NL Central has influenced my team building strategy since I joined the PBL late in the 2032 season. I think this is one aspect that clouds some GMs judgment, and part of the struggle of a continual rebuild. This offseason is no different in that regard. Milwaukee is improving, but I don't think they've improved to surpass the Reds, and I don't believe the Reds have gotten worse. Are the Reds a team that can win 106 wins again? Yes. Will they? I really don't know, but I don't think 18 wins less than last year is realistic at all.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
Walt Perez from Carolina. That's an Ace you can build a team around.
7. What is your timetable on a championship?
The window is still open, and the plan is to continue to keep reloading for as long as possible.
8. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series?
San Diego has to be the favorite, but they will be facing some tough contract decisions in the near future. Will they seal the deal this season when they need it the most? I think this is the year they get it done against the Yankees in 6 games.

1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
A little but of luck paired with preparation goes a long way. No doubt Marlins played a bit over their heads. A 92 win, playoff birth season absolutely exceeded expectations. Lesson 2? Hopefully seize the opportunity and build on the success some luck provided.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
Basically brought in a new rotation via trade. Juan Garcia, Mike Larson and Claudio Silva are all new editions representing 60% of the rotation.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
The ghost of Andy Hebert. One of the biggest and probably the worst salary dump trade in this GMs history. Hebert was unceremoniously released in 2052. This season his salary is finally off the books.
4. What are you the most excited about this season?
Early season outlooks appear to have Miami as one of six teams fighting for three playoff spots. Just hoping to be in the mix come September.
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
The division did not have nearly as much impact as the state of the Marlin organization. As mentioned just hoping to build on last season's success. It's doubtful we have the fire power to seriously challenge Washington for the division title. I am hoping I did enough to stay a step ahead of Carolina.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
I would love to have a young true Ace starter. Houston's Paul Burke would fill the requirement. I made an attempt to acquire him in the offseason but the Miami organization simply lacked the star power to make it happen.
7. What is your timetable on a championship?
Honestly we are still probably 4-6 seasons out. This group should be able to be in the playoff mix but it will likely take another influx of groomed young talent before we can seriously contend for a title.
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?
Man I'd love to take a shot at Sansterre here but sadly it is probably pretty accurate for the Miami squad.
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series? I always like to go against the grain for this question and make a low odds shot in the dark pick. Just so that one time I can point back and say "I called it!" if it ever plays out haha. I'm taking the Royals to get a championship before their talent twilights. Royals over the Dodgers in 5!

1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
That I'm not cursed, that sometimes my team is exactly as good as my sheet says. I'll be honest, it seemed like the prior three years were me thinking my team was above average, and then finishing in the mid 70s. Even two years ago when I finished with an 88-game pythag, I only won 78 games. So to have a season where I actually win 88 games and threaten for the playoffs is a big relief.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
Kenny Ibarra is the obvious answer, but I'm optimistic about the value that Antonio Medina and George Westbrooks can bring.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
I definitely wasn't excited to lose anyone, but I was increasingly nervous about the financial commitment that Luis Garcia, Kelly Harmon and Fraser Ross represented. To be able to turn them into a pretty good haul was a relief, if not exciting.
4. What are you the most excited about this season?
The chance at a playoff spot. We'll see how it goes, but a playoff spot (or even leading the division for several months) would be pretty great.
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
The rebuilding of the Cardinals did incentivize me to double-down a little bit. With both the Reds and Cardinals on top of the division, my best bet was to be patient and not overcommit. Once it was just the Reds, the value of investing in the present increased.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
I'm poor, so they'd need to be on minimum. While I'd love to have Makalani Korra, pitching is always harder to get for me. So I'll say Tampa Bay's Fernando Gutierrez.
7. What is your timetable on a championship?
In terms of making the playoffs and thus implicitly having a shot? Honestly, any season now. In terms of winning 95+ games every year, getting a bye most years and having at least a 10% shot at a ring in any given season? Not until Kenny Ibarra/Raul Ferrer/Javier Arrerondo/Teddy Lockrey/Yang Siu/Henry Austin/Antonio Aguilera develop. If I can get Ibarra, Arrerondo and Ferrer near their peak on the same roster with Jorge Salazar, Bill White and the supporting cast . . . yeah, 100+ wins is a realistic possibility. We'll see how that goes.
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?
I'm hoping that it's spot on!
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series?
Rangers against the Padres.

1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
Having a balanced lineup is important. LH hitters don't hit their best in Carolina so I went with too many RH bats and struggled against Right handed pitching all season.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
Kong Kuang gives me the leadoff hitter with a little pop I have been searching for since Jose Garza left.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
It cost me $18m to release Colin Sheaffer and his .119 batting average. I hope he plays better in San Francisco but he won't be missed here.
4. What are you the most excited about this season?
The Warhounds are a young team that under achieved last season and have more talent than they have had in a long while. I expect this to be a fun and successful season!
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
I was more aggressive seeing how strong the Nationals and Marlins are. Need to keep up with the neighbors.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
I wish I could find a player like John Howe to plug into the middle of my lineup---oh wait---that's right. Hmmm I'll just change my answer to Bill Kachmeier.
7. What is your timetable on a championship?
I am in the midst of the Walt Perez year$ , it's a small window before he $$$$'s out of Carolina - so we are doing anything we can to win it now
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?
I am hopeful that he has not accounted for the quantum leaps all of my young players are going to make this year- as each one of them reaches past their peak potential, just like I know they will.
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series? Padres and Indians

1. What lessons did you learn from last season? My team is really good...when they want to be. They were garbage for the first half of 2054, and frankly all of 2053 before turning it on down the stretch and making pennant runs. With the South improving as much as it has they're gonna have to try a little harder this year.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add? CL Bill Dodd was the biggest offseason add, as he'll be holding down Tomas Parra's old closer role for us, which allows 2053 NL Reliever of the Year Kelly Nunez to continue dominating in a setup/stopper role.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose? I wasn't excited to lose Parra (and neither was my owner), but he slipped a bit last year. Hopefully Dodd can do a similar job and I'll be up a few million dollars and a comp pick.
4. What are you the most excited about this season? Not being able to coast in the NL South. Don't get me wrong, I'm planning on winning it, but the increasingly good competition keeps me engaged. On my team I'm most excited to see 3B Jose Varquez and SS Aureliano Cervantes develop. The rest of my hitting core is on the wrong side of 30, so my ability to stay competitive in a few years hinges on them reaching their lofty potential.
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason? Eh, I suppose between the fall of Anthony's Braves and the rise of Mac's Warhounds I got a little lazy since I could coast to a playoff spot. Now I have to make sure my resources are properly allocated, though I didn't go crazy with big contracts and win now trades.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something. Give me the full compliment of team controlled years for Kenzaburo Sato or Makalani Korra please.
7. What is your timetable on a championship? Well I've been one game away two years running, so this year of course. We have everyone of note besides Jim Tatum under contract for 2055, so we'll be in the hunt next year too. Raymond Page and Robin Johnson have deals that expire after that with Chris Allen a year later, so I'll have my work cut out for me then.
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team? Nothing. 99 wins and a #2 seed? Sign us up!
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series? White Sox over Nationals in 7. Oh wait, it's not Groundhog's Day? Umm...Padres finally get theirs over the Rangers in 5.

1. What lessons did you learn from last season? If you are unhappy with a particular aspect of the team, make the change sooner than later. My bullpen was under performing and we weren't fielding a full pitching staff, even though most of the players were proven or had the right "ratings". If you can go out and improve them, do so when possible. The addition of Henry Alexander and Melvin Wells in June helped propel us up in the league's pitching rankings. 2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?I was excited to bring back Antonio Lopez after he opted out. Hopefully he retires a Padre. Excitement arises each time I am able to keep this team together for as long as possible. 3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?Haleem Muthomi. The guy's got a great eye, but not much of a bat and he was demanding far too much in an extension. It seems a bit wrong to be excited about a premium position player leaving, especially when his replacement isn't anything to be excited about, but I did get a compensation pick out of it. 4. What are you the most excited about this season?Seeing some fresh blood in the playoffs. I know, I know I'm part of the problem and I have every intention of landing a playoff spot, but seeing teams like the Angels, Marlins and Brewers make the playoffs is exciting. 5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason? The future is youth and the Padres do not have it. Others, like the Giants do, so the only way we can keep atop the division is keeping our stars on the team and continue to work them like a 19th century 12 year old. 6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.Alfonso Salgado. Ever since taking over the Padres in '47, 3B has been a weak spot and one where I haven't been able to find a long term solution. Salgado is young, a captain, and oh and he's a Giant right now 7. What is your timetable on a championship?6 years ago. But I see us making the playoffs for the next 4 years if everything works out perfectly. Look at the guys you've been on the team for the last 6 seasons who've gone hungry in their quest for a championship: Manny Sanchez, Jim King, Angel Solis, Aaron Vernon, Miquel Geerloff, Bruce Boyer, Antonio Lopez, Jack Macgruder, and Kata Okada. Think of the children will you!?!? 8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?I think John is tired of his own projections for the Padres, but we appreciate them nonetheless! 9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series? It might not be what will happen, but what I want to happen is a battle of underdogs with the Warhounds sneaking past the Phillies in the NL and the Angels shocking everyone as they squeak by the Rangers. In the end, the Warhounds win their first World Series! But what will happen is the Nationals make good in lucky year number 3 as they beat the Rangers.

1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
That it takes skill, luck, and money to win. As apparently I lack the first and third items, I am counting on that second one to improve my squad in 2054. 2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
I am focused on my youth and hoping s few of them click at the same time to give us some traction. I am excited by a couple of arms that look promising. SP Enrico Soto is a 25 year old lefthander than had a decent spring, enough to force himself into the rotation. While not our strength, if he can give us some innings and wins, it will prevent the rotation from being a handicap. RP Jim Heinemann could be a future starter for the Expos, given his impressive ratings. While called up last year, his 10+ ERA was semi-brutal. His overall rating against the league is what suggested we take a good lok at him in a setup/closing role. And if he shows well, maybe the odd start further into this season.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
Not really, but I am excited for 3B Steve Bauer. Having a shot at a championship is a good thing for the former Expos. I was able to secure a bit of a return for him last year by sending him to the Reds. Did not get the ring. This year hopefully has a shot in New York. 4. What are you the most excited about this season?
Being better! 5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
Not at all. The focus, at this time in Montreal, is internal.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
3B Steve Guindon. Hopefully he, the SP, CL and OF I possibly could afford to field along with him, would make a deadly four-man unit! Of course most of the remaining money would have to go to the SP because, without a catcher, he better be throwing laser beams on the corners. And he BETTER be able to consistently cover 1B.
7. What is your timetable on a championship? Star Date 5790.62
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?
I am happy with the prediction.
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series?
Yankees & Padres

1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
Need to score more than three runs in three games to beat a team in the playoffs. But, in general, the plan is going well.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
Brady Henderson should be the best hitter Texas has had since Jeff Bunyan, hoping that he has many good years in the middle of the order.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
Texas was not excited with longtime franchise player Albert Hernandez' departure to Colorado. But Albert's slim Hall of Fame chances improve in Coors Field, and we wish him well, during the regular season.
4. What are you the most excited about this season?
Competing with all of the good GMs in this fun league, watching the young pups develop in the minors, all of the usual stuff. There is a little extra excitement for Makalani Korra, the best hitting prospect Texas has had in some time.
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
Not too much. The division is always the first goal for Texas. Motivation to trade for Henderson was more from consecutive playoff showings of silent bats than keeping up with the Joneses and Kachmars.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
It would be nice to have Enrique Vazquez or Bill Kachmar so as to remove them from Kansas City's roster. Walt Perez or Sarsa-Dengal Robienayai would give the team the true ace it does not have. There are many players Texas covets.
7. What is your timetable on a championship?
Texas is looking to compete for a championship this year, five years ago and five years from now.
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?
Sansterre's sheet is right about the Texas team, wonderful prediction model if I do say so.
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series?
Texas will defeat both Colorado and Chicago in the playoff and defeat the Padres in a 4 game romp. Gotta aim high.

1. What lessons did you learn from last season?
Last season reinforced my feeling that when the focus is on rebuilding one must stick to the plan. Continue to structure pricing to generate revenue and profits. Continue to invest in development. Avoid the temptation to bid on big name free agents who probably do not fit the timetable. Continue to have faith in the youngsters. Patience pays.
Last season we exceeded expectations and made a mild run at a playoff berth. While doing so, some rookies and 2nd & 3rd year players improved their individual skills and performance. This season we have added a few more rookies to the Giants with more talent still developing in the minors. We hope to surprise the experts by improving upon our win total. Whatever happens, we still consider ourselves in the rebuilding mode. For now, we will stay the course.
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add?
We are excited to see how rookie position players Chong-Yeol So (1B) and Raul Ramos (2B) will fare. So has not been rated highly by the analysts, but he has blasted his way through the minors posting an OPS+ of 132 and higher at the A-, AA, and AAA levels. He appears ready to assume the primary role at the first sack. Ramos is an outstanding fielder who has developed more slowly over four seasons. He now appears capable of earning significant playing time.
On the mound, the challenge for our coaches is to determine which of many talented pitchers are truly ready for the big show. We expect that highly regarded Wilson Munoz (#9 PBL prospect), Ramon "Razor" Hernandez, Kevin Hendrickson (#65), Kurt Maddox, Rob Garcia, and Edwin Aitcheson all will see action with the Giants over the course of the season. Which ones will perform well? Will everyone remain healthy? We have options. It will be fun seeing who emerges to nail down long-term spots in the rotation and bullpen.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose?
We were very excited to lose outfielder Francisco Ramirez. He had become a worthless drag occupying a spot on the roster. He refused to be demoted, so we bought out his remaining contract and turned him loose. Doing so enabled us to sign veteran Collin Shafer to a one-year contract. Shafer should prove to be a more productive reserve outfielder who should effectively bridge the gap until a couple of young outfielders are ready for the big show.
4. What are you the most excited about this season?
Team: I am excited to see how well our young, developing club will perform. Who will develop into very good to excellent players for us? Will we have a legitimate shot at finishing higher than 3rd place in the NL West for the first time in several years? Will we make a strong run at a playoff berth?
Players: Will team captain Alfonso Salgado, now 25, continue to improve upon two consecutive seasons performing at a 5.5 WAR level? Will talented Peter O'Gowan, now an every day outfielder, continue to improve at the plate? Will Mel Lutz return from the injury that sidelined him for most of 2053 to lead the team as the staff ace?
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason?
We have been looking up at the Padres and the Dodgers for far too long. Their success didn't influence our strategy. However, we have been keeping an eye on them. Our hope is that everyone playing for each team is best suited for golf, shuffleboard, and bingo at the same time as our more youthful team is ready to take control of the division.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something.
That's an easy one: Enrique Vazquez. Fans in the Bay Area still love Enrique. We miss him dearly, but trading him was in the best interest of our franchise. We obtained a wealth of talent that is fueling our rebuilding effort. We would love to have him finish his career pitching in a Giants uniform. Even if he does not, it is just a matter of time before we retire the number 27 he wore while pitching for us.
7. What is your timetable on a championship?
There is no better time than now. All we want is one. However, right now we don't feel that we are quite strong enough. Hopefully we will be in another year or two. The first step is to make the playoffs. Then anything can happen.
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team?
We don't feel that we are essentially the same team as last season. The starting staff and the relief corps should be stronger. The roster of position players is deeper and more versatile. We believe we can adapt well to the injuries that will occur over the course of the season. We believe we can surprise Sansterre and win more than the 83 games he predicted.
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series?
San Diego (finally) will win the World Series by beating the strong Texas team.

1. What lessons did you learn from last season? I hate rebuilds!
2. Are there any players that you were excited to add? I didn't really add anyone, but getting back Alfredo Rojas and Sotan Kono Jr.helps my pitching staff immensely.
3. Are there any players that you were excited to lose? Paul Doss, his contract subtraction helped me out.
4. What are you the most excited about this season? Getting rid of my entire starting rotation because they have been dead last for a few years and my owner wanted me to improve the team ERA.
5. How did the state of your division influence your team-building strategy this offseason? It didn't. My farm is so bad it's going to be awhile.
6. If you could gain control of any player in the league (but still be on the hook for his contract), who would it be? Assume that it costs you nothing in trade capital. You just let the other GM play with a kitten while you sneak out the back with their player or something. CF Kenzaburo Sato. I can afford his contract as of now, lol!!
7. What is your timetable on a championship? 5-10 years?
8. Exactly how wrong is Sansterre's sheet about your team? It's pretty spot on.
9. Which two teams are you predicting will face each other in the 2054 PBL World Series? Padres/Yankees
