Instead of just the top 10 lottery picks we could protect round one pick protection when signing comp eligible free agents to all teams that did not make the playoffs.
This might help competition. It seems like many comp eligible FAs go to the top teams. Maybe part of that is just a result of those teams having more finances available to target those free agents. But it could be that part of it is giving up the 12th overall pick has more impact than giving up the 30th. If we expanded that protection maybe some of these teams in the middle would be more apt to compete for those free agents?

I personally like this one a lot. For instance this off-season I was interested in signing several comp players that could have helped, but the loss of the 1st just wasn't worth it.

Please review CBA 2017 setting in the game.

Please review CBA 2017 setting in the game. There is a lot more to the 2017 CBA setting than just this portion.

Please review CBA 2017 setting in the game. There is a lot more to the 2017 CBA setting than just this portion. Agreed. But it specifically allows all teams to keep their first rounders (provided they do not trade them of course - but even then they would be assured of that trade chip), even when signing a COMP player. There may be some issues with later picks of course. But at least it's an in-game thing that would minimize the manual labour on the part of the Commissioner. Just a suggestion.

I like this idea but I am considering shutting down this thread. I investigated CBA 2017 and I do not think it works well with the PBL draft process (trading draft picks, having stats+ be the system of record, etc.). It would also over complicate things if we had custom PBL rules for managing the supplemental round.
I'll leave this thread open for now in case anyone requests further details or has recommendations for managing something like this or strong opinions.
