Apologies for the delay. Not sure why but it takes about 8 hours to simulate a PBL season. Must be just the league size and history. Anyway, it took awhile to this together.
Here is what I did:
Took a snap shot of the current PBL and simulated through end of playoffs.
Converted to OOTP 20.
Removed and reassigned minor leagues so that each organization had 5, one at each level.
Set maximum minor league roster sizes. 30 at each level except 50 at R.
Set Active Roster size to 26.
Purged 3,398 FAs .
Left the draft set to create enough players for 28 rounds (that is the current setting).
Simulated 4 seasons to opening day 2056.
Results.
I checked available Free Agents at opening day each season.
2053 - 368
2054 - 475
2055 - 578
2056 - 711
I also checked the number of all Players in PBL on opening days.
2053 - 8036
2054 - 8347
2055 - 8526
2056 - 8414
Breakdown of players by in the league by potential stars (2.5 or higher)
Stars / Current / 2056
-------------------------
5 / 45 / 55
4.5 / 44 / 52
4 / 103 / 90
3.5 / 148 / 144
3 / 305 / 332
2.5 / 1004 / 984
Breaking down further:
4-5* players increased by 5 (192 to 197)
2.5 - 3.5* players increased by 3 (1,457 to 1,460)
In other words, stars virtually remained static.
Takeaways:
I think if we adopted the evolution as packaged we can be pretty confident of having enough players and talent available. Even with the current draft settings the number of free agents crept up. If we do increase the number of players created for the draft to increase talent in the draft it will have to be at a cost of purging more players. I know there are conflicting opinions out there on the importance of these two factors.
I have retained my OOTP 20 snapshot of current PBL as well as the copy I simulated to 2056. If anyone has thoughts on what other statistics or metrics might be useful to compare please speak up and I'll pull them.
There was discussion about introducing winter ball. That can still be up for discussion but it was not part of my testing.
I will let people weigh in here for a couple of days but expect some polls to be posted this sometime this week. Polls will have some options available. For instance, 4 vs 5 minor league teams still needs to be decided, etc.
