1. Nigel Laverick, New York Yankees -- Yes he had the biggest payroll in baseball, but Nigel took the steps to make sure he won the title this season against some intense competition. He went out and got Nyjer Morgan, Shin-Soo Choo and Matt Capps to sure up his team's roster. He played the role of villain in an outstanding way this season.
2. Sam East, Seattle Mariners -- The Seattle Mariners were an ultimately flawed team when Sam originally took them over, but he did everything in his power to create a winner now. From acquiring Prince Fielder, Brian McCann, Jake Peavy and Carlos Quentin to smaller moves like signing Matt Murton he built a team that was ready to win this season.
3. E.J. Joseph, Tampa Bay Rays -- To play against the Yankees and their $300 million payroll is tough when yours is only $80, but Joseph did a good job of balancing the future with now in Tampa Bay. He still managed to win 100 games and make the ALCS. Most of the young talent was already in place, but the selection of Marvin Webb was a brilliant one as he's already producing at the Major League level and acquiring Jair Jurrjens and Dan Haren helped bolster a pitching staff that was already excellent. Finally, Joseph didn't give up in the face of adversity against the Yankees. He acquired Miguel Cabrera in one last push to topple the Yankees. That's the type of creative thinking that should be rewarded in the league.
Special thanks to Derek for running a great league in its first season.

1. EJ Joseph (Rays) Took a very promising team and turned them into WS contenders (and IMO the 'best' team in the AL on paper) with some creative trades and excellent roster moves. Difficult not to give this to the WS winner, but the promotion of Marvin Webb to the majors just at a time when the Rays needed some more offense with the Longoria injury was a master stroke (and ultimately the move that knocked the Mariners out of the playoffs!)
2. Nigel Laverick (Yankees), WS winner - it's difficult to vote for the Yanks as winners when they have such a dominant payroll...still Nigel had to cope with some rough injuries, made some solid trade moves and ultimately managed the Yanks to World Championship!
3. Jason Hebert (Twins), Jason didnt make many flashy trades or mess with the Twins roster too much - but as the quality team in the Central he didnt have to. Got all of the Twins star players long term extensions so that they'll be the team to beat in their division for a while.

1) Sam East (Mariners): The Yankees had the better team, but the moves East made had more impact in Seattle becoming a great team, than the moves Nigel Laverick made. The Yanks would've been great one way or another, but by adding Prince Fielder and Brian McCann, the Mariners found an offense to match an exceptional pitching staff. Then, East made the controversial move to bring Jake Peavy to Seattle for Cliff Lee.
2) Nigel Laverick (Yankees): Laverick's fiddling with the lineup always made sure he had hot hands at premium spots in the lineup. Laverick acquired Matt Capps in the offseason and watched him turn in a postseason for the ages. And fans won't forget Nyjer Morgan's Walk-Off in Game Two of the World Series anytime soon.
3) E.J. Joseph (Rays): By acquiring players like Adam Lind and Miguel Cabrera, Joseph's lineup became stocked with power hitters, but his main stroke of genius was calling up Marvin Webb less than two weeks after he was drafted. Webb's defense, slash-hitting, and ability to make things happen on the base paths gave the Rays an extra dimension to a potent team.

1. Sam East (SEA) - Trading for Fielder and McCann was genius, as it made them an instant contender. Also loved the acquisition of super utility-man Omar Infante. 2. EJ Joseph (TBA)
3. Nigel Laverick (NYY)

1.Sam East (SEA) - for what he did for the team, we started with real life 2010 rosters - in real life the Mariners are 32 games out, there Sam led them to the play-offs
2. Nigel Laverick NYY - I didn't have to do a lot but I've secured the closing future, kept a fine OF line-up despite several injuries thanks to the trades and made enough moves in the play-offs to hang on in there with only one superstar pitcher fit
3. EJ Joseph TBA - created to only team that pushed the yanks and for the foresight of Mavin Webbs capability

commish vote:
1- Sam East 2- Nigel Laverick 3- EJ Joseph
pretty obvious top three this year but I think the expectations in seattle before the season and their results, risking the farm to win this year and actually doing it puts Sam slightly ahead of everyone else.
