1. Joe Mauer, C - Minnesota Twins -- Mauer was second in the American League in VORP, a shade behind Prince Fielder, but he plays a premium position and led the Minnesota Twins to the playoffs. He led the AL in OBP, was 3rd in batting average and hit 3rd all season.
2. Prince Fielder, 1B - Seattle Mariners -- He got 40 at bats with the Brewers at the beginning of the season, but almost all of his damage came while playing for the Mariners. He led the league in ISO while playing at Safeco Field, he lead the league in OPS and was second in home runs. He also drove in 114 runners. This is all for one of the surprising teams of the season. He's not really 2, but more like 1B in my book. Either one is a good choice for this award.
3. Evan Longoria, 3B - Tampa Bay Rays -- This is a tough call, but Longoria, along with teammate Carl Crawford, led the Rays to the playoffs this season. He led the AL in SLG at .589 and was third in OPS behind Fielder and Kevin Youkilis. He plays very good defense at third base and, along with Miguel Cabrera, gives the Rays a dangerous duo in the middle of the lineup.

1. Kendry Morales 1B (Angles) - Most RBIs in the AL by miles, 38HRs, .319ave - the best all round bat in the AL this year
2. Prince Fielder 1B (Mariners) - As White Sox said, when you look at Fielder's numbers you have to take Safeco into account - without him the Mariners would have had no power threat at all!
3. Joe Mauer C (Twins) - Another outstanding year for Mauer

1) Prince Fielder (Mariners): He lead the league in VORP, and OPS. He was a home run away from leading in dingers. He carried Seattle's offense. Unlike Morales, he did it while playing for an elite team.
2) Evan Longoria (Rays): Even while missing a month, Longoria had a great season. He's third in OPS, and his raw home run and RBI numbers would be astronomical if not for a late season injury.
Kendry Morales had a nice year, but with so many deserving players on elite teams, he has to take a back seat.
3) Joe Mauer (Twins): He's such a smooth hitter at a position not valued for offense. He led the league in on-base percentage, was third in average, third in walks, and will probably be the AL Gold Glove winner for catchers.

1. Kendry Morales, RBIs a huge factor but the combined contact and power shown consistantly through average and HR also notable.
2. Prince Fielder, very good season in the power categories and extremely valuable to his team, Morales just that little bit better all round
3. Longoria with Mauer only just behind.
