An idea was brought forward in the playoff structure thread about combining divisions into to divisions of 8 in each league.
If this passes there are some inherent changes that will go with it. Playoff structure will change so that there will be a playoff within each division. The two division champions would face of in the round 3 of the playoffs with the winners proceeding to the world series. Also. If we adopt this change, round 1 of the playoffs will extend from best of 3 to best of 5.
If we adopt this at this time, realignment will be very simple. The North and East divisions will combine and the South and West will combine.
Commissioner does not really have a preference on this poll so proxy will go to Abstain.
75% is needed to pass this change.

I will weigh in here. If there is concern that the wildcard team winning 100 games and being the 5 seed is unfair, then this means that the proverbial Red Sox and Yankees matchup would be guaranteed to happen before the ALCS, not just more likely.
I'd like to be able to beat Tampa or Kansas City or Houston in the ALCS, not just in the divisional playoffs.

I am no, but if the wording of the playoffs went to "division winners get byes, the teams with the top four records regardless of division square off in the wild card round, seeded by record" I'd become yes.

I like the idea of realignment. In general, I prefer divisions with more than four teams in each division. Regarding playoffs, I feel: a) each division winner should be awarded a bye in the 1st round as a reward for winning the division; b) 12 of 32 teams in the playoffs is the "right" number of teams (I do not support 16 of 32); c) the remaining, top four teams in the NL and AL should be seeded by record. Different wording agreeing with the opinion expressed above...

I don’t get the people who don’t vote. Not only is there a “non-vote option” (abstain) those individuals STILL choose not to vote. There have been 23 GMs on in the last 24 hours and only 17 votes, some have 15 votes.
For these scenarios, I’m ok with the proxy vote for the commish, but I think if his say, or vote in this case should NOT carry 15 votes.
2,3, or 4 is one thing but for only 15-17 people to vote and the proxy vote be worth 15 votes is insane!

I proposed years ago going to 2 divisions of 8 in each league, with the two division and then the next 4 best records making the playoff. I'm fine keeping it the way it is, but would love to try the 2 division alignment if we choose to mix things up.

I'm fine keeping it the way it is, but would love to try the 2 division alignment if we choose to mix things up. You are not alone in this sentiment. I am getting feedback from multiple GMs that they would vote for this structure. Baltimore John brought up the idea of realignment this offseason. His vision was to have a playoff within the division. The wording of this poll was not specifically to say that an inner division playoff is better than two divisions with 4 wild cards. But the catalyst of this season's realignment conversation was to have that inner division playoff. Maybe this should be split into 2 polls. 1) should we realign? and 2) If so, should playoff seeds go to top 3 of each division or to the division winners then the next 4 wildcards. The danger there is it seems that many GMs want to realign only if question 2 goes to their preference.....

I like the intimacy of the 4 team divisions and the rivalries that form because of it. Sure once in a while an 82 win team slides into the playoff, but hell that's baseball. Obviously I voted No
