Dateline: Carolina August 6, 2046
With the season quickly getting away from them, the Warhounds today announced the release of their long time starting 3rd basemen George Martin.
Martin had played 381 games for Carolina and has established himself as one of the elite gloves at 3rd base and was recognized as a team leader, in fact most players in the Warhound clubhouse looked to him as the unofficial Captain. The problem was his bat, Martin has struggled all season with an anemic .663 OPS.
To replace Martin the Warhounds are moving Paul Doss over to 3rd base and have called up Sean Bradshaw from Double A Hartford. The 28 year old Bradshaw was signed this spring as a minor league free agent after playing 6 years in the Mariners organization and is having a great season with a .370 OBP so far in the minors. He will platoon with Ron Rippon (.400 obp vs Lefties) at 2nd base.
In other news the Warhounds avoided arbitration with All-Star shortstop Jen-Kan Hu, coming to terms on a 1 year extension that pays $4.6m. Rumors have been circulating that the Hounds are deep in negotiations on a long term deal with one the team's other stars. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
