***** (+2 stars) Zach Porter (SP)
**** (No change) Carlos Sims (SP)
**** (New) Millard Nosworthy (1B)
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox have a bunch of young stars, making absolutely no money. Now’s the time to either go all in and start making some free agency moves to push the team into the playoffs, or start selling while value is highest.

** (New) Joe Small (SP)
* (-2 star) Terrence Henderson (1B)
Texas Rangers
What’s interesting about the Rangers is that they’ve been getting a lot from a young, cheap crew of players AND they’ve still got a few more in AAA just waiting for their shot.
Toronto Blue Jays
No Albatrosses for the team leading the AL East with 6 wins and 0 losses. If these trends continue… AAAAYYYY!
*** (New) Jon Young (SP)
- $95.87 Mill through 2048.
- Player opt out after 2048.
- $62.38 Mill through 2050.
- $31.19 Mill team option in 2051 with a $8.5 Mil buyout.
- Promised Role: Starting Pitcher.
- I thought Young might be an important addition to my rotation this year. But then the free agency price went north of 20 Mill per year and I had to go find my heart medication. Hard pass!
Boston Red Sox
***** (No change) Thomas Kimball (CL)
- $19 Mill through 2047.
- $9 Mill player option in 2048.
- Actually managed to put together 28 starts last year. Then his Labrum popped and suddenly the Red Sox rotation has become a wasteland.
***** (+2 stars) Zach Porter (SP)
- $20 Mill through 2046.
- $16 Mill player option in 2047.
- The injury gods are cruel. Maybe the retirement gods will take pity upon Bean Town.
**** (No change) Carlos Sims (SP)
- $13.5 Mill through 2046.
- $13.5 Mill player option in 2047.
- Kimball and Porter are down. I’m putting the over/under on Innings pitched by Sims this year at 80. Place your bets fellas.
**** (New) Millard Nosworthy (1B)
- $15 Mill through 2046.
- $13.5 Mill player option in 2047.
- A truly mindboggling 244 K’s last year. I did the math. That means 35.7% of his 20245 plate appearances was a whiff. But one in every 12 at bats was a homer, so it balanced out maybe?
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox have a bunch of young stars, making absolutely no money. Now’s the time to either go all in and start making some free agency moves to push the team into the playoffs, or start selling while value is highest.
Cleveland Indians
***** (+3 stars) Jose Rivera (DH)
- $10 Mill through 2046.
- $10 Mill vesting option in 2047 after 500 PAs..
- Promised Position: Starting Lineup
- I’ve never done this before, but when your third highest paid player is playing on another team that’s an immediate Albatross! It’s a brave new world out there, people!
*** (New) Jorge Gonzales (DH)
- $14.79 Mill through 2047.
- $13.79 Mill player option in 2048.
- If he could play second, he’d be one of the best out there. But as a DH? He’s middle of the pack at best.
** (No change) Jason Royal (SP)
- $19.25 Mill through 2046.
- $19.25 Mill player option in 2047.
- He’s healthy and his skills seem intact at 36. Might be a bit pricier than I’d dream of, but in a world where Jon Young makes $10 Mill more per year, you can’t really complain.
Colorado Rockies
**** (+1 star) Pepe De Jesus (SP/RP)
- $25.4 Mill through 2047.
- I have high hopes that he can be a viable reliever now that I’ve upgraded my infield defense. I have high, delusional hopes.
*** (New) Armando Gonzales (SP)
- $43.625 Mill through 2049.
- $12 Mill team option in 2050 with $3 Mill buyout.
- $11 Mill team option in 2051 with $3 Mill buyout.
- $1 Mill bonus for 180 IPs.
- When he was demanding $20 million a year for 9 years, I had some important decisions to make. So I sent a team of hired goons to his house, and we worked it all out.
** (New) Duane Hansen (CF)
- $186.57 Mill through 2053.
- $16 Mill team option in 2054 with a $6.5 Mill buyout.
- $16 Mill team option in 2055 with a $6.5 Mill buyout.
- $2.5 Mill hitter award bonus.
- What can I say? A man hits 71 homeruns, he gets paid. That’s the law.
** (New) Shawn Palmer (SP)
- $37 Mill through 2048.
- $12 Mill team option in 2049 with $3 Mill buyout.
- $11 Mill team option in 2050 with $3 Mill buyout.
- God, it’s scary giving money to pitchers in their mid-30s. But his arm seems strong and he’s healthy as a horse. What’s the worst that could happen?
Detroit Tigers
***** (No Change) Jorge Siador (SP)
- $190 Mill through 2050.
- $38 Mill player option in 2051.
- Last year was the absolute, no-question about it, 100%, best case scenario for Siador. He will never earn more than 3 WAR in a season. Never.
Houston Astros
*** (No change) Andy Hebert (1B)
- $76 Mill through 2049.
- Player opt-out after 2049 season.
- $38 Mill through 2051
- $19 Mill player option in 2052.
- It’s tricky. I didn’t like this contract extension when it happened. But I have to ask myself, what would a guy like Hebert make in free agency? I think it’d probably look a lot like what he’s earning now. Makes me re-evaluate things.
Kansas City Royals
The Royals are the best AAA team in the PBL.
Los Angeles Angels
**** (+1 star) Hoshi Nakashima (SP)
- $41.14 Mill through 2047.
- $20.57 Mill team option in 2048 with a $5.1425 Mill buyout.
- $20.57 Mill team option in 2049 with a $5.1425 Mill buyout.
- Promised Role: Starting Pitcher
- I wouldn’t trade for Hoshi unless AT LEAST half his contract was being paid for.
*** (New) Carlos Martinez (3B)
- $54 Mill through 2050.
- He doesn’t have the arm to be at the hot corner. He’s a reasonable left fielder, and an average second baseman. There’s nothing wrong with him… Just not a lot right with him either.
Minnesota Twins
**** (+1 star) Scott Gaines (LF)
- $27.8 Mill through 2047.
- $13.9 Mill team option in 2048 with a $3.475 Mill buyout.
- $13.9 Mill team option in 2049 with a $3.475 Mill buyout.
- What if Gaines had played throughout all of the Great Re-calibration of 20145 instead of tearing his Labrum? He might have challenged Duane Hansen for the homerun record. It’s a legitimately fascinating question.
** (No change) Joe Aitcheson (RF)
- $41.7 Mill through 2048.
- Lead the league in triples AND doubles last year. How nutso is that? Also, absolute no homers, which is another weird thing to see from a right fielder.
New York Yankess
*** (No Change) Adrian Frost
- $60 Mill through 2047.
- Player opt out after 2047.
- $50 Mill through 2049.
- $25 Mill team option in 2050 with a $10 Mill buyout.
- $25 Mill team option in 2051 with a $10 Mill buyout.
- Picture this… It’s the end of the 2047 season and Adrian Frost has just opted out at age 32. Do you think he does better than the back end of this contract? I actually think he might.
** (No change) Mario Eras
- $40 Mill through 2048.
- He’s the king of walks. Having an OBP that’s a full .140 better than his average is pretty bizarre.
* (No change) Rafael Fernandez
- $30.62 Mill through 2048.
- $10.32 Mill player option in 2049.
- Am I crazy or have the Yankees gotten thrifty all of a sudden? I mean, they have a total payroll that’s only 2 Million more than my Rockies. What gives?
Oakland Athletics
*** (No change) Dennis Sanguillen (SP)
- $25 Mill through 2047.
- $12.5 Mill team option in 2048 with a $3,125 Mill buyout.
- Promised Posiition: Starting Pitcher.
- He’s kind of the mayonnaise of starting pitchers. Bland, inoffensive, boring. If the A’s could give him the nickname Mayo, I might momentarily forget that their GM my bitterest enemy.
** (New) Markus Price (SP)
- $51 Mill through 2048.
- The A’s didn’t mind giving up a first rounder to snag Price with the frontloaded contract. Once the price drops next year he’ll be almost absurdly cheap.
** (New) Mel Wolfe (2B)
- $91.594 Mill through 2050.
- $16 Mill team option in 2051 with a $8 Mill buyout.
- $16 Mill team option in 2052 with a $8 Mill buyout.
- Another patented Oakland frontloaded contract. It might make things a little tight next year, but it’s a decent deal after that.
* (New) Carlos Martinez (CL)
- $51 Mill through 2049.
- $10 Mill team option in 2050 with a $4 Mill buyout.
- Promised Role: Closer.
- WHAT?!? HOW DOES A RELIEVER DO THIS? I’m not freaked out by the ERA, it’s the innings pitched! 170 innings from a reliever is utter insanity!
* (No change) Norris Barton (SP)
- $110 Mill through 2050.
- $22 Mill team option in 2051 with a $5.5 Mill buyout.
- $22 Mill team option in 2052 with a $5.5 Mill buyout.
- I guess I can’t be too outraged by the contract. But man… Can you imagine how much he’d make if he hit free agency? I don’t think $45 Mill per year would be out of the question.
Seattle Mariners
*** (No change) Juan Serrano (3B)
- $89 Mill through 2050.
- Player opt out after 2050.
- $18 Mill through 2051.
- I’ve just never been thrilled about Serrano. He needs to get off of third base immediately, but otherwise I just don’t have many thoughts about him.
*** (New) Mike Hickman (2B)
- $32.666664 Mill through 2048.
- His ratings make him look like a guy who could excel as a second baseman, on the cheap. But if you look at his stats, he’s never lived up to his potential offensively or defensively.
** (New) Aurellio Marrujo (RP)
- $45.06933 Mill through 2050.
- Ah ha! I see why Marrujo wouldn’t sign with my team now! Take a look at his contract years. THERE’S 666s ALL OVER! There’s no room in the PBL for devil worship!
* (New) Alex Edwards (RP)
- $22 Mill through 2048.
- I’m a little confused about Edwards. Looks like he got an extension from the Braves, but then ended up on free agency anyway. Was it an illegal extension or something?
Tampa Bay Rays
**** (+1 star) Hadde Leider (RF
- $49.68 Mill through 2051.
- $8.28 Mill team option in 2052 with a $2.5 Mill buyout.
- I thought this was one of the better deals in last year’s free agent market. But if he’s a .240 hitter in a corner outfield position he might start become a bit of a burden.
** (New) Joe Small (SP)
- $16 Mill through 2047.
- Player opt out after 2047.
- $8.5 Mill through 2048.
- $8.5 Mill player option in 2049.
- Oddly, it isn’t the money that makes this contract less desirable. It’s all those opportunities for Small to opt out which might make it harder to move.
* (-2 star) Terrence Henderson (1B)
- $60 Mill through 2048.
- I take back my worries. Henderson’s in his prime. If TB put him on the block I bet they could find a taker pretty quick.
Texas Rangers
What’s interesting about the Rangers is that they’ve been getting a lot from a young, cheap crew of players AND they’ve still got a few more in AAA just waiting for their shot.
