Tetsunori Kokawa - This made me laugh.
June 20th, 2045 The Case of the Missing Star's Batting Gloves: After a poor start to the season, Tampa Bay Rays' Tetsunori Kokawa insists that the fault for the bad start lies neither in his stars or with him. Instead, he places the blame solely on a missing pair of lucky, old, and crusty batting gloves.
Said Kokawa, "I've had them since college and I have no idea why someone would even want to steal them. Seriously, they stink but I need them back or I'll probably never get a hit again." So for now, a mystery hangs over the gloves and Kokawa's missing stroke. It is doubtless that fans of the second place Tampa Bay are likely hoping the gloves and their catcher's stroke are found soon.
July 6th, 2045 Gloves Found, Kokawa Rejoices: A while back we brought you the story of the poor Tampa Bay Rays's catcher who was honestly devastated by the loss of his lucky college batting gloves. Today, the gloves suddenly turned up in the strangest of places. Said teammate, Sergio Colmenares, "I found them in my underwear drawer...seriously. As soon as I found them, I got them back to Tetsunori. I didn't even ask for a finder's fee and besides, I couldn't wait to get rid of them - they really stank."
No details on how the gloves got in Colmenares's underwear drawer and perhaps that is for the best. For his part, Tetsunori Kokawa was ecstatic. Telling the Tampa Bay Daily News, "I put them on right away - it felt so good to have them back. I can't wait to get back out there and face pitching again with these on."
