Starting Pitching- Mario Colon 13-9 2.86 heads this improved staff. Young Howard Nichols burst upon the scene last year winning 9 games despite not pitching in the majors until after the All-Star break. Maximo Caraballo and Jeremy Harden were signed this off season to provide veteran leadership to this young corp. Jose Hernandez 8 wins and a 6.26 hits per 9 innings last year will complete with rookie prospects Yeong-Sam Kim and Jim Lott for the 5th spot in the rotation.
Relief Pitcher- The bullpen was a strength of the Warhounds last season and it returns mostly intact. Brent Miner coming off a 35 save season will close, while the setup duties will be divided between David Field, Manuel Rosado and Javier Gonzales. Kent Kennedy provides a veteran presence. The only new addition this year will be lefty Carlos Martinez who was signed as a free agent from the Mets.
Catching- Jose Jimenez is one of the league's best players. With 30 homeruns and a .872 ops- Jimenez is a solid MVP candidate. Martin Dominguez is a highly touted prospect that is too good to keep in the minors and will give the Hounds a fearsome 1-2 punch behind the the plate.
Infield- Glenn Davis and George Martin both return to the corners, while 22 year old Jen-Kan Hu continues to improve as he starts his 3rd season at shortstop. The competition for the starting 2B job will be a fierce between battle Javier Apina who is only 1 year removed from hitting 32 homers in 118 games, versatile Alfonso Varela and rookie Todd Green. Free Agent Howard Carey comes over from the Pirates to fill the super-utility role.
Outfield- Jose Garza, Patrick Bennett and Ryan Lemongello form the NL's best defensive outfield. Bennett hit a career high 20 homers last season, while Garza continues to be one of the most consistent lead off hitters in the game. Former 1st round draft pick Jim Shaw has been a disappointment at the plate so far, but will get another chance this year to fulfill his potential.
Designated Hitter- Clint Lindsey has ripped 54 and 46 doubles in his first two seasons and last year turned up the power with 20 homeruns. Don't be surprised if this 23 year old sweet-swinging lefty is competing for a batting crown this year.
2045 Outlook- After two consecutive 81-81 seasons the Warhounds seem poised to take the next step. The addition of some proven arms to the rotation should help propel this team to contention this year. Anything less than a post-season appearance will be considered a disappointment.
