I do really like Slack also. But I am not certain it is for this league. I do think it could have a role here. It would be a great place to jump online and hash out trades. Draft discussion, game advice, there are a bunch of examples. Maybe we could do some live sim events (playoffs, opening day etc). Slack would be a really fun tool to enhance those kind of experiences. I do hope to host some of these over the next couple of seasons. It is also great for file sharing.
On the other hand I have read and heard from multiple sources that in the end Slack can be a forum killer. I think the PBL forum is one of it's greatest assets and I want to protect and nurture it. Another negative of Slack is that content retention is limited. Also unless everyone is very disciplined about where they posting information gets buried quickly.
Slack is set up for PBL. It just never took off. I would be happy to send invitations if anyone wants one. I have zero issues with anyone that wants to use it and would be very happy to see a community organically grow itself. But I do not plan on doing anything to force the issue.

I think the forums dating back to long before I got here is one of the greatest tools we have for recruiting new players when we need them. That's how I got here. Saw a posting on the OOTP board, clicked on the link to the forums and saw how active and deep it was and decided this was the league for me. You lose that with Slack.

Im not a fan of slack but we could move the chat window to the top of the page so it gets more use. I think that there are lots of comments i have that arent deserving of a full post and thats a good place to post impressive performances and comments about the pennantchase and stuff

I have made my slack opinions known. I work with it in the ABL, but i don't like it, and feel it would change what we have here, which is wonderful without it!

My favorite thing about Slack is the simupdates I'm a fan of slack for this reason as well but I also like the ability to (usually) get faster responses to trade inquiries via slack than with the forum. It's also nice when you have an active league to have a "general chat" channel that allows for dialogue instantly by multiple GMs. That's kind of cool, except it is easy to get bogged down in that as well. Where you have so much chatter that you have to scroll up 20 pages to get to the beginning of the conversation. I have also noticed that in the ABL folks us the "trade block" channel to chat about trades or to just chat. I think the trade block channel should just be trade blocks and not chatter because it's easy to lose track of who is looking for what or what's available by cluttering it all up with chat.
I love the forum too. I don't think slack really allows for the kinds of write-ups that a lot of us do on the forum. I'm not very good at it but a lot of the GMs on here are and it is interesting to read what they have written about the league or about their own team. The write-ups are some of the best stuff about this league. I was going to do a write-up about my team in another league I am in, a pre-season look at my team like we do on the PBL forum, but that league only uses slack and it's not good for write-ups.
I'd like to see the PBL use both the forum and slack. In slack you can link write-ups done on the forum so they are easy to get to. My 2c.

Talking trades on Slack or Flock is infinitely easier and quicker.

I agree, there IS a place in the PBL for Slack. I think the channels should be very limited: Trade Block, Live Sim, General Chat.
All sim posts done here on the forum, all trades, drafts, etc...
I think this allows teams to negotiate easier and quicker and then can follow along during sims. Other than that, the forum should continue to be the go to source.
