Another season and another opportunity to capture the goings-on inside the PBL. There is one GM doing a happy-dance this morning, as morbid as that may seem.
San Diego announced the following via a press-release:
San Diego Mourns Passing of Owner:
It's a somber time for the San Diego Padres organization. They have lost owner John Moores, who passed away recently due to illness. The team announced funeral arrangements this afternoon at a press conference in PETCO Park. Services will be held tomorrow afternoon in the city.
As far as who his successor will be, it was clear that his son John Moores will take over as the new owner. In recent years as a training device, the elder Moores has given his son important positions in the San Diego Padres organization. San Diego insiders indicated off-the-record that the younger Moores would be economizer money-wise and tolerant in personnel decisions.

PBL Implements "No-Fly Zone" for Miguel Román's Drone:
As reported yesterday in the Los Angeles Daily News, we learned that Los Angeles Dodgers' right fielder Miguel Román had built a drone during the off-season, and was using it to snap some pictures around the team's spring training facility.
There were some people in the Paramount Baseball League head offices who were not a big fan of the drone, apparently. They had the drone "grounded" as they didn't like Román flying it around the stadium.
Hearing of the ban, Miguel Román took to social media.
"Hey PBL if you're going to ban drones, can I at least have that rule named in my honor?"

Fernando Alfaro Changes Diet, Comes To Camp In Top Shape:
Players turned heads when Nationals 1B, Fernando Alfaro, first walked into the clubhouse on the first day of spring training. Alfaro surprised everyone by shedding weight as a result of a diet change in the off-season.
"After last season ended, I decided it was time to take my career to another level. You only get one shot at playing this game at a professional level and I want to make the most of my opportunity. Apart from doing more work-outs, I decided I was going to completely change my diet. I eliminated all junk food and focused on implementing as many greens into my diet as possible."
As a result, the whole clubhouse is excited to see how Alfaro performs this year. Some believe that he could really turn the corner on his career.
"I feel great. I'm excited to get out there and show the world who I am," Alfaro said, grinning from ear to ear.

Can't be any worse. -1.1 WAR since I traded Tim Fernandez for him in 41.

BNN Stats: Active Career Pitching Leaders:
Which active pitchers are leading the Paramount Baseball League in career complete games?
Keith Parks, ARI, 46
Orlando Pérez, OAK, 41
James Solof, -, 26
Danny Solley, ROC, 24
Kung-zheng An, CAR, 20
Keith Parks has 175 wins in his PBL career. The 39 year old is on the dark-side of the moon in his career, but one thing he has done better than any previous/current PBL starter is lead in pitching complete games. In an era of 6 and done, Parks maintained his old-school, bulldog mentality to close out what he started.
A tip of the cap, Parks. You are a Hoss. #finishwhatyoustart

LA Angels 1B Jared Harris is 16 hits shy of the magical 3000 hit plateau. The soon to be 41 year old (September 4th) has 98 hits this year with 60 walks. Still productive into his 40's!

Twins LF Jimmy McIntosh is 3 home runs shy of 500 for his career. Only 21 PBL players have 500 or more home runs for their career. McIntosh is 45 years old and so far this year has put up a 132 OPS+ season! Incredible longevity for this man!

2 Pitchers in the same season garnered the Triple Crown, in the AL & NL. In the PBL, only one other pitcher managed the feat before this season ( Bruce Pinnock, 2041). But in 2044 Norris Barton of the Oakland A's and Salvador Nunez of the Pirates were lights out for their respective teams. To have 2 pitchers, one from each league, win the Pitching Triple Crown is such a UNIQUE accomplishment and another reason why the PBL's rich history continues to amaze me!
