Congratulations to the 2 new Hall of Famers, Matt Wieters and Martin Perez!
Two players from the "real world," Wieters was an incredible catcher for a number of teams, but most notably for Shane's juggernaut Pirates. He spent a long time as the premier player at his position. He was a switch hitting slugger with patience who was also a plus defender at a premium position. He had a seven year run in his prime where he finished each season between 6.2 and 7.5 WAR, and was one of the most underrated superstars of his era.
Martin Perez is the only PBL pitcher to get to 300 wins, a feat he accomplished with the Blue Jays and one that I pushed for, even a little past the expiration date of him being a truly effective pitcher. While his time in Toronto was noteworthy, he was a longtime stalwart for the Dodgers. Perez ended up finishing in the top 10 in innings pitched for 17 consecutive seasons, and 18 of 19. During those 17 seasons, the lowest total he threw in a season was 218.2. He was an incredibly durable, extremely consistent pitcher.
While the PBL Hall of Fame is even more flawed than the real one, there are still a great many players enshrined that have had their careers exist in our little world. It's a fun place to go look, even if Pablo Sandoval isn't in when he should be!
