The point of baseball is to score more runs than your opponent. Rivera had a hand in 257 runs this year (runs scored, runs driven in). MacKinney had a hand in 166 runs scored.
OBP and hits notwithstanding, Rivera was more valuable to his team this season.

Between Jose Rivera and George MacKinney:
MacKinney has more RC (152.22 to 144.3) and RC/27 (10.87 to 8.98). However, Philly is a better hitting park than Miami. Let's start throwing in some park-adjusted stats to balance it out.
OPS+: MacKinney 184, Rivera 178
wRC+: MacKinney 190, Rivera 176
It's closer here, but still clear, MacKinney had the better season.
But aren't we forgetting someone?
Marcos Pena didn't hit as well as these guys (17 less RC than MacKinney and 7 less RC than Rivera). However, he's a 3B. The other guys are average fielders at LF and 1B. In general 3Bs hit 10 runs a year worse than LFs, and almost 14 runs worse than 1Bs. So Pena gets a 10-15 run bump because of how much better he is than the average 3B. Also, his glove was worth ten runs above average, compared to +0 for MacKinney and +2 for Rivera. So he'd basically need to be 20-25 runs worse than them as a batter to be of comparable value; he appears to have been better.
WAR: Pena 8.7, MacKinney 8.3, Jose Rivera 7.5
Just saying.

A lot of great stats but Rivers was the best player on the best team. I think he gets my vote.
Even though Guy Richmond is yelling to look at his numbers. Damn great seasons all around in the PBL this year.

C Eric Harrison wants to get paid this off-season too.
He's wanting $35 mil per year on a 5 year deal!
