Putting this here because it does deal with a rule (and the other off-season thread is full of a bunch of ideas and I'd like this to stand alone). But feel free to move it elsewhere if you'd rather it not be here.
I think we should clarify draft pick COMPENSATION for lost free agents. There was some discussion this past season, once we got into it, about the COMP tag coming off, but there is no mention of that in the rules.
Free Agent Signings
Once the free agency window opens then players can be signed in the usual way in-game. a. Free agent compensation is turned on – Please note that signing “COMP ELLIGIBLE” players will result in the loss of a draft pick.
Free Agent Compensation
In OOTP, when a team loses a compensation eligible player (as determined by OOTP - based on real life rules) to free agency and that player is signed by another team compensation will be as follows:
a. The team that originally lost the player to free agency will receive an additional draft pick in the upcoming first-year player draft as compensation for the player signed as a free agent. b. The pick will occur in a supplemental round between the first and second rounds. c. Players eligible for free agency at year end must be offered arbitration (referred to as arbitration in-game but similar to a qualifying offer in real life) in order to be eligible for compensation.
Unless I am missed something, removal of the COMP tag is not written anywhere in the Governance/rules thread. Could it be included?

I know I am new here but if I may give my 2 cents. I like the idea of not losing a draft pick for the signing. In my previous league we had players sit forever that should have been signed. Also if you are a rebuilding team you may need to sign a vet but it kinda defeats the purpose if you have to lose a draft pick to do so. With all that said I personally never liked comp picks period. I found it helped good teams that lost good players however I know it can also be applied to teams of lesser stature as well. Comp picks also lessen the value of high second round picks. JMO

I see no reason to change the rule as it stands.
Removing the draft pick lost when signing comp eligible free agents only helps teams with large budgets. It also helps the team that lost the player by allowing them to be in a better position to renegotiate a new deal with the player.
In the real MLB, a good example of this would be OF Dexter Fowler of the Cubs.

Could we possibly just get the "COMP tag will be removed..." clarified in the rules then? It was discussed at length in this thread before the last draft started and it was unclear at best. With new GM's coming into the league, anxious to learn more about PBL and play within the "rules," the rules should always be current. FYI: I am totally for the MLB version of this rule and never dropping the COMP tag. But whatever the rule is should be outlined in the rules is my point.

Comp tags are removed at the same time the rookie draft list is published.
