Inspired by his club's winning ways, Second Baseman Rich Thornton has inked a 5 year deal with the Rockies. This is the second such deal in as many weeks for the Colorado club, who had seen hard times until taken over by visionary manager Ben Spiro. Oakland Athletics GM John Healy was quoted immediately after the announcement as saying, "That magnificent bastard! I don't know how he does it!"
Contract Details: 2038: 4.7 mil. 2039: 7.63 mil. 2040: 7.63 mil. 2041: 7.63 mil. 2042: 7.63 mil team option with unknown buyout. (Admittedly the buyout may have accidentally been lower than the required 50%. I can't remember)
Side note: This is not a contract I argued down. This was the player's demand, which I met without adjustment.

I'm not that appalled at all with this deal. I think besides the first year its a fair deal....if it was 7M per I think it would be more in line (just my opinion). SD recently signed Derek McCauley for 6 years and ~10.5M per and that deal was negotiated with Zevin. To me McCauley is a much better 2nd baseman.
I myself recently signed Brian Merritt to a 7m/5yr deal and I can sleep sound.
Not sure if you are just trying to put a spotlight on the situation to show that we need Zevin? To me I think and I know it won't happen but GM's should just make what they think is a fair deal. I mean we all have some Idea that we got a really sweet deal....why not just bump the contract up yourself to a reasonable level? I mean with Evans if you would have just offered 10-12M per I don't think Anthony would have even said anything...it still might have been team friendly but not as obvious. Why can't we just use an honor system and if its way out of line I think the rest of the GM's will step in and bring it to the commissioners attention.
It's not that I don't like the Idea of Zevin but to me it just doesn't work well in an online league world in which we sim at a rapid rate. To me it's more important for GM's to be able to manage their teams without the albatross of waiting 1-2 months (real time) to figure out what might be a players future salary. That is no disrespect to Derek.... and I think he knows that.
To me the system we should have in place is use your best judgement and if the league as a whole has a problem with it we will discuss it on the boards and the commish can make the adjustment. Might not be as rigid as people would like but I think it takes care of the problem and keeps us moving. Just my opinion.
