Fans in Cincinnati woke up this morning to some exciting news. The Reds and the NL Platinum Stick Award Winner Alvin Raymond have agreed to a long term deal. With one year left of arbitration, Raymond didn't know how much longer he would be in Cincinnati but any doubts have now been erased.
"I've loved playing at Great American Ballpark but this game is also a business. I figured that I'd at least be here in Cincinnati for my final arbitration year but you just don't know in this game." Raymond said, "Immediately after the World Series ended, GM Sean Bain called me and told me that he wanted me to be a Red for a long time. He said that I'm part of our core and that he wanted to build this team around myself, Ken, Will, Salvy and Myles."
The 6 year deal buys out the final year of arbitration for Raymond at $10 mil, and proceeds to pay him $16.1 mil per season through 2042 with a team option in 2043. The option year buyout is for 50% of $16.1 mil which comes out to $8.065 mil.
"We felt like now was the time to sign Alvin." GM Sean Bain stated over the phone this morning, "He's done everything we've asked him to do and more since we traded for him from Boston. We can't wait to see what the future holds for him and the rest of our squad."
