“We figure out what to do with cash. If allowing us to use cash puts too much money into the system then I would suggest lowering the max a team could get to an acceptable level. If a team is still in the red then they can't make any deals unless their debt improves by X amount. We can still use cash to sign draft picks and that can put us in the red too if we have a lot of picks to sign and if they are expensive ones. Either way, was looking to continue the discussion on what to do with cash."
PBLRC RECOMMENDATION: The committee is recommending by a 3-1 margin that we stay with our current rules regarding cash.
PBLRC ANALYSIS: There was no dialogue from the league to pull from on this topic, so the committee itself became the sole voice to consider. We had one committee member who felt that cash is a part of the game and we should be able to access it for anything we want, but perhaps max that out at 5 million. The remaining members of the committee felt that there was no real reason to change because there is already an overabundance of money in the system. There was more than 1 billion dollars of “spare” cash across the league when Spring Training began last year that could have been used to sign players. For the majority of the committee, adding more money into that pool does not make sense without a more compelling reason.
