This is exactly how we do the draft in my other league. It's simple. It's structured. It's fair. And best part... I always know exactly when my pick is due. I'm a big fan of this. Tim / KC Exactly Tim. I learned from this in another league as well. Seems to work very well and no hiccups.

Derek, Good points... all of them. I'm sure we agree that the point is to maintain a good pace throughout the draft process, not to penalize GMs. I support either approach. Either one should result in an improved process. Whatever you decide is fine with me. +1 Commish. Your points are valid and make sense. No need to lose a good GM over unexpected life events getting in the way of a good time in this league.

I don't mind autos but I think there should be a general list of all the names so you can see who you might get if auto'd. Then cross them off as we go.
Basically.... How do you pick from a boat load of players who then get auto'd? I mean what if Sam is 3 guys away and he wants someone specifically. What keeps him from autoing other guys instead.
Having a list like you have in fantasy sports would help I think.

Fin I'm about to auto pick you btw!
(I'm happy helping with whatever everyone decides by the way - set draft times or continue as we are).
I was going to suggest that those people we have auto'd in prior years start with half the time of people who pick quickly...

There are 8 picks left in round 2, and good money says we won't be able to Sim tomorrow night. Would you be shocked if we still didn't have those 8 picks done on Wednesday? That's been consistent with our pace. This has made the draft pretty uninteresting, as it drags on. Meanwhile, my other league drafted part of round 1 and all of round 2 just yesterday alone, and did it without anyone complaining it wasn't fair. My round one pick was due by 11:30 am, my round 2 pick was due by 7:30 pm. Now that's faster than we have to go, BUT. .. If you know when your pick is due, it allows you to plan. Maybe a 4 day Draft plan, with half a round each day? I don't know, but anything is better than this.

You've gone above and beyond for over 3 RL years now doing a sucky job that no one else wants. And, I want to add, doing a good job autoing players for teams. Frankly, if the gm wanted that player their ass should have been here making the pick. Sent from my Nexus 7 using proboards

Yup, I understand what White Sox are saying but I don't know if there is anyone I trust more than Sam with the way he handles things.

I wasn't implying cheating, more that a list helps people see who would be autod if it came to that.

I agree with the list thing. In case Sam isn't around. Just run a list from the game and boom that is the auto list. Keeps things going when he's not around.

BUT imagine if it was discovered that Sam was in fact pushing the pencil a little bit in the draft. What a scandal to rock the PBL! We need one of those, haven't had one since tank-gate! LOL.

How can there be a list? It's more about giving the team the best player available which is always going to be debatable. And what is the point of GM's knowing who would be auto'd? Each draft pick is a mystery when the GM makes it- why should we know in advance when it's auto'd?
So essentially the list is the draft pool.

It's to keep the draft moving. The list is generated in game and is a master list. Another idea to go along with that is putting a time slot for each pick next to the name. Once time is up then the list is used ASAP. Sam can't be around 24-7. With people living over seas picks can be made at any time. This is the best way in my opinion.
