Hey guys, we are going to cut it close on the Draft. If we do not want to miss any Sims then we need to work together and make picks quickly or send seattle your list.
Please!!

It started two days ago. Unfortunately we got a late start this year, so we're crunched for time. You appeared to be on the boards a few times while you were up in the draft, which is why Seattle went ahead and made the pick after a time limit. I left town on Tuesday morning and didn't have access to the internet until I got home last night, so I definitely wasn't on the boards. I just wish I knew the draft was going to happen. I would have sent a list if I didn know. I always do. It's just disappointing to not get to pick, especially at #5. I know this is an active league and I'm an active GM as well, but that just happened really quickly. We sim every other day, if we lost a day or two of simming to do the draft I don't see that as a huge problem if the alternative is a team doesn't get to make their first round pick. Just my opinion. Hard to know you are under a time limit when you don't even know the draft started. Put this here, so it wasn't in the draft thread.

hey Shane, I know this sucks....
Remember the last NIBA draft? - I missed 3 first round picks (I was in Vegas, certainly not thinking about draft picks) before I saw you'd emailed me to let me know I was up. It's shitty to miss one of the best parts of the game, especially when you're rebuilding.
I'm not sure what else I could have done though? I saw your as being online on the boards a couple of times, saw 'Pirates GM' as a member online in the last 24 hours, shot you 3 PMs, sent you at least one email, tried to find you on AIM. I figure we all have email on our phones - so even if people are away they'll see if I emailed them and let me know if they can't pick.
We did start a little late this year, and I felt 24 hours is fine (in an active league) for pick length - especially as I figured you'd just reply to my email if you needed a time extension (I did check the 'GM Hiatus' forum just in case)...
Given we now have 6 days IRL before the draft is due, giving everyone 36-48 hours to sit on a pick, is just impossible (we'd be waiting all month for the next sim).
I know you're a super active GM in all league we've been in together and really care about your picks - so I hated having to take a pick (think I picked a good one for what its worth) - but as I say - as much as this sucks I just dont know what else I could have done (or how we could correct this situation?).

We need to do a better job of scheduling. No warning was given on when the draft would take place. There was a 6 hour break between the first pick and my pick simply because the lottery was posted and drafting began in the course of my shift at work.
If we announce things earlier, the GM's can better plan their participation. Then we don't have to give such long time limits and the onus is on us to be prepared.

Seattle is in charge of running the draft around here and I have to agree with him here. I know for a fact that he goes out of his way (more so than I would probably) to make sure he finds a way to get in touch with owners.
The talk about the draft had been mentioned as I said I was doing the Lottery shortly.
Needing to do a better job of scheduling is confusing to me. Where has our schedule been messed up? We sim every other day (and we don't miss sims), playoffs are done daily (again don't miss sims), off-season is done every day as well. Announcements are made for sims each day, and talk of Draft orders being mentioned is listed as well.
When I announced the #1 pick (TOR), I said they were on the clock to let people know that as well.
Could we have done a better job of announcing the Draft has begun? Maybe, I can see some teams points but do we need to do a better job of scheduling? I don't agree with that at all.
And again, Seattle just does a great job of trying to make contact with owners so teams are notified, plus if your logged in to the forum at some point, its assumed you would see it.

I think Seattle does a great job too. The overall sheduling is good too. I remember you posting that the lottery was gonna go up and I looked out for everyday, for next year, if we could have at least 3 or 4 days to know when the draft is coming up that would be great. This year there wasn't a warning at all. It just started and then that was that. It's all good. I just think with something as important and fun as the draft we should be able to plan for when it is going to happen and that wasn't possible this year. At least for me it wasn't.

I think the draft happened a bit suddenly, as well. Didn't think there was a problem, but there probably needs to be a league announcement in the future. Just so we can avoid this type of problem in the future.
Pirates, out of curiosity... who would've been your pick at no. 5? I'd almost say that if he was selected no. 6 or no. 7 we could do a bit of flip flopping within those close picks as long as the other GMs are willing. Just a thought, but I'd be willing to bet that the community can save us here.

I see your point Shane... it'd would have been better to have a 'draft starts in two days' kind of announcement. Something we can do next year for sure.
As for Pads suggestion - I'm fine if Pirates wants to negotiate a straight swap with anyone who has drafted since pick #5 (I know Pads really wanted Aranda!) I'll leave this to you guys to work out - just let me know if you do find a solution and I'll just swap over who was picked.

haha... Can't do a straight swap (although I'd love to), since it leapfrogs other teams. If its within a few slots though, I could live with it.

yup good point, if there's a swap it would have to be with the #6 drafting team (A's 6- Oakland Athletics - Dalton Denorfia CL) only if A's said they didnt want to swap could Pirates talk to the #7 drafting team (7- Milwaukee Brewers - Alejandro Hernandez SP).
This all seems a little convoluted but if you can make it work Pirates just let me know

By scheduling, I meant advanced warning. Even dedicated GMs can't always be 100% available. Of course we were aware that the draft was imminent, but advanced knowledge of the date it will begin allows us to schedule our time.
And btw, my post was not a complaint. I understand that the league is relatively young and that we still need to work out some things. I was pointing out that advanced warning would allow us to shorten the time necessary for each pick.

We will be starting round 2 very soon...
To get round 2 done we will be running with a strict 2 hour pick deadline (with allowances for sleep/ time zones) - which will mean if you dont want to be auto'd you pretty much have to send me a list 4 or 5 picks out from yours.
If you actually dont care about round 2 pick (after all, there aint much talent left in this draft) - then PM me letting me know you dont mind me auto picking for you....
I expect round 2 to start first thing tomorrow.

I have only one comment on the draft going on the PBL, I have been in alot of leagues since this game has came out, of all the leagues that I have been in, Sam runs the best draft in all of them. I have been playing against Sam for a long time, you will not find a better guy to do this...I just thank him and Rockies, Padres, Rays, Yanks, and the great Commish for the best damn league in OOTP

While I have only been involved in OOTP for a short while, the leagues I have joined cannot even compare. The draft , and league in general are well run. Thanks to all involved.
