Is there any way to make our amateur draft pool better? Last year's pool was pretty bad if I remember correctly. Would it help if we created more players for the pool? So, if we draft for 20 rounds, have the game generate enough players for 50 rounds.

Major level talent inflates very quickly if drafts are commished better. I've seen too many leagues where nearly every stat is blue for most players in most rosters.
If we were getting a drop in talent levels then fair enough, but I'm not seeing that at any of the levels

I would rather have poor draft classes and try find some diamond in the rough then have everyone's roster filled with blue chip all stars!

It's a risk. Obviously with a careful commish you can up the draft class slightly, but it is a big risk to solve a problem that actually isn't affecting the majors (and arguably not the minors)

I didn't draft last year much in the first few rounds because I signed some free agents with compensation attached to them, but I recall that the pool seemed very bad. Not sure if my recollection is wrong.

If we were getting a drop in talent levels then fair enough, but I'm not seeing that at any of the levels I think the major problem is the overwhelming proportion of middle relievers to position players. Also, when guys like Marvin Webb hit the Majors and start dominating, it usually means that the drafts have been going decently. There isn't much depth, sure, but my top four picks of 2010 and five of my top eight of 2010 are progressing through the minors nicely. 2011 is a different story, but some of my 2012 picks are starting to develop as well.

Is it possible that there is such a thing as just a crappy class?
So the draft was terrible last year, sometimes it happens.

I think it's been recognized as a problem with OOTP11 that the draft classes (after the first one) are weaker than they should be - and that there are more great MRs than anything else. Our last two draft classes have been so poor that Round 1 Supplemental drafters are generally fighting over scrappy '2 star' specs.
However, this is one issue that 'should' be resolved with OOTP12. Which would mean the next draft class (using 11) would probably be weak again - afterwhich we'll have some stronger classes.

We can micromanage each draft class using a random number generator and the player creation metrics found in-game.
Use the RNG to determine that year's draft "strength" and announce that first in the off-season. This gives GMs a bit of a heads-up and may affect how we all act in free agency. Then when it comes time to create the draft pool, the player creation metrics will kick in and create a slightly stronger or slightly weaker draft class.

if this is possible it'd be a great idea, except for the fact that FA is screwed too.

Contraction draft. Let's start with the Padres! I was going to volunteer myself actually. My organization is ruined. It'll be a decade before we do anything worthwhile.

Keep the faith! A strong draft, an unexpected blossoming player, and a little bit of luck and you can be back near the top! Some CEI's to every other NL West team's best player wouldn't hurt either. Oh, and don't give up on guys with Sub-3.00 ERA's like Garland! But stay patient, I mean I won't be winning NL West titles EVERY season
