As the trade deadline approaches, the Giants are looking within for talent that may help spark what we hope is a rapid rise in the standings during the next few seasons. Given that the starting staff has an ERA of 5.05, the focus right now is on the rotation. Several top prospects are PBL ready or near ready. Are they? We plan to find out. If they help us improve as a team this season, great! If we do not gain ground in the NL West, at least the rookies will have gained experience that should yield dividends next season.
Rookie Hideki Nakashima, a scouting discovery in 2058 (we love our scout), has pitched in the rotation all season. Although he was knocked around a bit early in the season, he seems to have matured. He has pitched much better in July. Longer term, he has the inside track at becoming the ace of a retooled starting five.
Eduardo Gallardo, a 4th round pick in 2060, was recently promoted and has pitched extremely well in his first 6 starts. He currently sports a 2.08 ERA.
Next up is Phil Williams, a 4th round pick in 2063. Williams has pitched well at the AAA level while logging over 150 innings. He appears ready for promotion. He will make his debut this week pitching at home and facing the Miami Marlins.
Together with veteran Tristan Donovan, who currently is 2nd in ERA on the NL leaderboard, they represent the future of the Giants starting rotation.
We most likely will not secure a playoff berth this season, but the experience the rookies will accumulate should prove invaluable. Let’s find out what they can do. It will be exciting to follow them during the latter portion of the current season.
Go Giants!
