A proposal was made to begin awarding minor league champions with cash to the organization. Let's call it $500k each to begin the discussion?
My initial take. I am not passionate about this one but I am fine with it. It may help bring some additional attention to the farm systems.

I think this would a fun tweak that would reward the GMs that pay attention and spend the extra time managing their farm system

That being said, I think we would need to implement age limits at the lowers levels to eliminate the 30+ year old at rookie ball.

Unless we strictly regulate what constitutes a minor leaguer (which we have voted on before), I don't think its worth it.

I think some type of reward would be nice... but also agree some age limits would be important

I am ambivalent about cash awards.
I do favor age limits at the lower levels. IRL, how many 30+ year olds (other than perhaps Crash Davis - not quite real life) hang around to play rookie league, A-, or A ball?

I am against. It rewards tanking and teams with bigger budgets have an advantage to sign all of the AAAA players

Not a realistic thing to implement based on how minor league rosters are managed

The minors, in my opinion, are about development, not always winning. And that, in turn, allows you to stock your major league team, to then win, with fully developed talent.
Those with the resources, and the inclination, tend to already max out their player development. And free agent minor leaguers now demand more signing dollars more than ever.
So if winning becomes more of a focus, again people with money put money into making more money.

One thought on this... in another league I'm in, we run a Winter League thats only open to 20-24 year Olds. It's about a 30 game season and followed by a single game elimination tournament that every team makes, with seeding determined by those 30 games. The winner of the WL tourney every season wins 2.5 million

I like the idea of some type of reward here. I think it's a great idea really, no matter what the reward is.
Although, you may want to establish an age cap on certain levels if so.

As has been noted, we would probably want to have age limits in place before awarding cash to minor league champions. It has been just over one year since we voted against implementing age limits in the minors. (Poll and discussion here: paramountbaseball.proboards.com/thread/14015/age-limits-minors ) I think this idea is not going to go any further. However, the winter league tournament idea offered by Red Sox has merit and I think can be discussed next off season.

I think I was the one who introduced this idea as another league I'm in gives a $500k cash prize to the AAA Champions. For me it gives a little incentive to pay attention t the minor leagues without it being so large that it wrecks the general financial structure.
I do take on board the point about minor league age limits though so how about a couple of other alternatives:
1) Give the same level of financial reward but give it to the franchise who has the best overall record across all levels (MLB to Rookie league). That would get around any distortion of just focussing on AAA and loading up with 34 year old AAAA types.
2) Make the reward in Paramount credits. These are given essentially to promote GM involvement so why not extend that involvement to minor leagues too?

The winning percentage of the entire minor league system is an interesting thought. Kind of a hassle to calculate but doable. I would prefer to avoid using credits though. To date credits is been all about engagement with zero rewards resulting from on field performance. My preference would be to continue with that.
