Numerous San Diego Padres players have missed games this season with a combination of significant and nagging injuries. Most recently, Relief Pitcher Francisco Castellanos suffered a partially torn labrum and will be out of action for a minimum of 3-4 months. San Diego Padres RP Francisco Castellanos Suffers Injury In 10-1 Victory Over Chicago Cubs “It’s insane,” said Padres General Manager Harold Cornish “Everyone worked their butts off in Spring Training to get ready for the season and their efforts were rewarded with a 16-6 record coming out of the gate in April. “It’s very difficult as a manager to sit there and watch these players get carted off the field in droves.” Joining Castellanos on the current injured list are the following: LF Donald Alston – Broken bone in elbow - 8 months CF Conan Davis – Elbow inflammation – 3 weeks SP Mike Larson – Biceps tendinitis – 5 days SP Carlos Lopez – Torn triceps – 6 weeks 2B Shumel Chikafuji – Strained rib cage muscle – 2 weeks RF Jaime Roman – Sore elbow – Uncertain return SP Rurik Otelsnov – Ulnar nerve entrapment – 3 to 4 months SP Pancho Toledo – Partially torn UCL – 10 months CF Jose Ramirez – Dead arm - undetermined “If you have enough talent on your bench and in your system”, Cornish said, “Then you can fill gaps and barely skip a beat. Unfortunately, we don’t have the depth or flexibility to overcome the negative impact of injuries.” Emergency Vehicles On Alert At Padres Game Since the injury epidemic arrived, the team recorded 9-18 records in May and June, and are 3-3 thus far in July. With a record of 36 -45, the Padres sit in 4th place of the NL Western Division, 12 games behind the division leading Arizona Diamondbacks. They are also 6th in the NL Wildcard standings with just over 3 months remaining in the season.
