In my never ending quest to bring as much stability and consistency to PBL as possible I now have my sights on the off season sim schedule. The last couple of seasons I have been pressing to reduce the number of sims and get to Spring Training as quickly as possible. Export rates in the off season (especially through January and February) are consistently poor. Most teams are not heavily invested in free agency and there is not much else going on. Slack slows down, overall interest lags. Still, some GMs have correctly noted that this has come at the sacrifice of Free Agent bidding. With month long sims free agency becomes more of a blind bid instead of an auction.
In the next few days I plan to post a poll with a few sim schedule options. Then we will go with a simple majority rules. Please respond here with any opinions or schedule recommendations and suggestions. That will help refine the options for the poll.
Here are some vanilla options to get the conversation started.
1. The super flash. 4 sims, approximately 1 month each. 1 week real time. To FA Declare, to RV, to end of January, to Spring Training.
2. The super detail. One week sims all the way through. Approximately 16 sims, 4 weeks real time.
3. The half way. Two week sims all the way through. Approximately 8 sims, 2 weeks real time.
4. The accelerated. One week sims through December, two week sims in January, four weeks in February. Approximately 9 sims, over 2 weeks real time.
One consideration is waiver and DFA length. The more consistency in the time of the sims the less I have to modify these lengths and the less chance for me to mess up. We need to be sure every player that passes through waivers is viewable to the rest of the league at least one time.
All sim schedules will have to include stops at FA Declare and RV draft. There are no other league events in the off season that we have to stop for.
