1. Who is the best player in your organization? How was he acquired? How long will he be on your roster?
SP Paul Burke is the best player in our organization. He was drafted in the 5th round by the former GM of Houston. He has survived the purge of talent from Houston in the rebuild. We plan to extend him, once he reaches 4 years, so we could definitely see him sticking around for at least another 4-7 years.
2. Are there any active Spring Training battles happening to determine spots on or alignment of the opening day active roster?
Rule V pick P Sen Ogawa was not expected to make the team, but we like what we see in him and he has earned a spot on our starting roster. He will be a long reliever for now, but is being considered for the 5th spot in the rotation if need be.
3. What is your team's biggest strength?
Our team's biggest strength is our rotation. Paul Burke is one of the best in the league and we acquired Perez and he could easily be a #1 but having him behind Burke is a huge improvement. Then we have 2 young pitchers behind them at 3 and 4 spots in Dennis Sims and Carlos Vargas. Both of them have developed and adapted to ML hitting extremely well and we believe they will only get better. Then we have lots of options for the fifth spot of our rotation. Right now we have Joaquin Garcia, whom as proven to be very reliable. As mentioned above, we are looking forward too seeing what knuckleballer Ogawa can do. John Roberts has been very successful as a follower and we picked up a guy we like very much Juan Jose Lopez who could see action at some point this season.
4. Where is your team's biggest weakness?
I'd say our biggest weakness right now the middle infield, but we are pretty happy with who is there still. Defense is good and our offense there is not super exciting but they definitely are capable of getting the job done. Real curious how Kurt Everett does in his debut season.
5. How far is this season's major league squad going to go?
We really felt like we were 1 or 2 more years away. We aren't one of the best teams, but with our rotation and our depth on offense, we really do think it was worthwhile to acquire guys like Paul Maclean and Tsuginori Kakuta to help us make a legitimate post season run. Fans are also excited to see both of those guys back in Houston uniforms. We are optimistic here in Houston, but there are no guarantees as always, so we'll see what happens.
6. Who is your biggest rival? What is the history of that rivalry?
I don't know for sure. I do know Texas and Tampa are beasts and it will take a lot of work on our end to move passed them. KC is also extremely good. We are hoping to develop some rivalries this year for sure, so fingers crossed on that!
7. What is your PBL World series prediction? Participants, winner and number of games.
TEXAS vs. MILWAUKEE. Texas wins in 6.
