SAN FRANCISCO -- Earlier today outside the Presidio Visitor Center, the San Francisco Giants organization formally announced the opening of their new ballpark, Presidio Park, which has been under construction for more than two years. It is located near the historic Presidio of San Francisco and surrounding area south of Golden Gate Bridge and west of the world renowned Fisherman's Wharf. The project, fully funded by private sources, will be completed before the Giants take the field for their first home game of 2055.
AT&T Park, one of the more beautiful ballparks in the PBL, has been the home of the Giants since the league began play in 2010. It has served the Giants and their fans well. The fond memories are too numerous to count. However, the ballpark now is 55 years old. It is time to treat fans to a state-of-the-art experience that introduces advances in technology and engineering that were not available back in the year 2000.
Presidio Park promises to do just that. According to owner Joe Neukum, "the project team designed a facility that incorporates the best materials, technology, and amenities available today. We are confident our fans will be delighted with the views. Not one seat in the ballpark has an obstructed sight line. Scenic views of the surrounding area abound. The concessions will offer varied, affordable, and tasty selections. 21st Amendment Brewery is under contract as the beer of the Giants. Fittingly, their Blood Orange IPA will be the featured brew. Presidio Park features an experience for all fans from the ultimate in luxury box amenities to three sections with $5/ticket, same-day-purchase seats. We are excited!"
GM Tim Ackley informed the audience that everyone in the organization is more than excited. "We are ecstatic. We are thrilled with the advancements and achievements of 2054. Our loyal fans continued to fill AT&T Park to near capacity throughout the last several seasons. Last year we secured a playoff berth. Our rebuilding effort is beginning to pay dividends. Our goal is to continue to improve the quality of play on the field. We will continue to strive to bring another World Series championship to San Francisco. Doing so in front of our awesome fans - the best in the PBL - and in a shiny new ballpark should be loads of fun."
Gone are Triples Alley, Levi's Landing, and a park that discouraged home runs. The dimensions of Presidio Park suggest that it will favor neither batter nor pitcher, neither left handed nor right handed batter. The left field flag pole is only 307 feet from home plate but the outfield deepens to 400 feet in left-center field and 393 feet in dead center. Right-center field is somewhat closer to the plate with a distance of 371 feet. Down the line in right field the distance is 320 feet. With the height of the outfield walls ranging from 7 to 9 feet, fans should be treated to many spectacular catches.
The 2055 season should be one filled with thrills and chills for Giants fans everywhere. Beautiful Presidio Park will add to the experience. Season ticket sales are brisk. Let's see how the season unfolds.
