As I stated on Slack--- I'm with the Rockies on this one. Penalize a draft pick--- although I was in favor of a 2nd rounder. And my suggestion was --- give them the choice. Let the players go OR--- pay the 2nd round draft pick to get them all back. That way they can take the lesser of the two bad options.
Just my thought.

I find myself on the moderate side here.
To my mind, the theoretical endgame of Contraction + MiL roster limits -> the cutting of a lot of bad players. If someone didn't respect the MiL roster limit cutdown then Ron is clearly within his rights to go in and purge a bunch of 0.5 star players randomly until it brings the roster down to size. He wouldn't go in and just start cutting prospects willy-nilly; that would be a disproportionate penalty for the infraction. And there is actually zero reason to be cutting players at all here with the Contraction; they can just be moved to another roster.
Ron obviously announced this a long time ago and went above and beyond to communicate it. And he made clear what would happen, and from that point of view these GMs have it coming.
But to my mind, this could very easily just have been:
Players on Team Being Contracted? -> Move to next highest farm team Too Many Players on MiL Rosters? -> Purge the lowest potential players
The cutting of good players is simply not necessary to the process (though it surely does save time). So for my money I'd say to take advantage of the opportunity to follow-up on the participation of a few GMs, but beyond that, send the prospects back and try and make these MiL changes as non-destructive as possible.
But to be clear, I'll back Ron however this goes. He communicated thoroughly and I know will exercise good judgment in coming to his conclusion, whatever that may be.
