Boston, MA, June 19, 2010 -- Paramount Baseball League, a NEW Out of the Park Online Baseball League has formed; New Website launch to coincide with Opening of the 2010 ‘PBL’ Season.
League founder, Derek Bobola announces today the creation of a new OOTP online league which will be known as Paramount Baseball League (‘PBL’ for short). “The decision to bring another league into the OOTP Universe was a rather difficult decision to make. It is not something that I take for granted nor do I believe it will be a walk in the park. With every new league comes a lot of hard work, commitment, scheduling, and long hours. Even if we master all the previously mentioned tasks, that does not guarantee success. To be successful, we MUST find the right group of owners who love the game of baseball and love the game of OOTP.”
There was a lot of debate that went into exactly what kind of league ‘Paramount’ would become. There was some speculation that it would be a throwback league starting somewhere in the mid 80s to early 90s, but in the end, Bobola decided with the start of the real baseball season less than a week old, there would be a lot of anticipation for a league with the most up to date rosters he could find. “I opted to go with a new league with 2010 rosters and prospects simply because this is what I enjoy playing the most. It is going to be fun to see how Lackey does in Boston, Granderson in New York, Roy Halladay in Philadelphia and to be able to follow that while seeing how they do in the real world will be exciting.”
Bobola was asked about the idea of bringing in a Co-Commissioner and he said that he plans on bringing in somebody to help the league. “I learned from past experiences in online gaming that its important to have one voice who makes the final decision. I will be that voice! However, that does not mean I do not believe in having a helper or two to run the daily operations of a league. I am not a big fan of labels so call it a Co-Commissioner or League President but I will have someone next to me as my right-hand man. In the end I will make the final decision but I will fully trust and listen to my partner in doing what is best for the league.”
The main reason bringing in a League President is because Bobola wants to make the league more accessible and also wants to keep a tight schedule. “I think the biggest downfall of OOTP leagues that end up going defunct is the inability to keep the league running on a consistent schedule. I understand that the real world gets in the way many times, so by adding a second person who can make sure sims are run on schedule, answer any questions that may arise while I am not available just seems logical to me.”
"Our goal is for every single Owner to know they are the reason that our league will succeed and come away feeling like they are in the MVP of all leagues, because in our eyes they will be.

It’s hard to believe this was written just over 9 years ago. I remember being a part of a league (NIBA I believe was the name) and it folded out of nowhere despite the urging of members of the league to keep it going and for the Commissioner to take some help which he kept refusing.
Since then, I cannot even begin to think of how much the world has changed. To put it into perspective, the PBL is only 5 years younger than Twitter! I would love to sit here and list all the major events that happened but nobody wants to read about the last decade worth of news. I mean after all we joined this game for an escape from reality.
However, I will point out that when I started out the PBL I was just a 29 year old, “hard working” (I worked for my father’s restaurant) man who was married and had a 2 year old son. Since then I learned the meaning of hard work as I have taken over the family business, turned it into two locations and now operate a food truck as well.
All the while, my two year old son is now 11. I also have a 7 and 6 year old boy who are all completely different and extremely active in their own things. My oldest is a tech guy, Fortnite is life and loves learning computers. My middle son hates technology and sports and is an outdoor kid who wants to be in the dirt, fishing and exploring and my 6 year old son is the athlete in the family and already playing high level soccer, baseball and basketball for his age group.
Being from Boston, I should point out since the PBL started we have seen championships in 2013 Bruins & Red Sox, 2014 Patriots, 2016 Patriots, 2018 Red Sox and Patriots.
I also went from married to divorced (not because PBL I don’t think) and met an amazing girl who I been with nearly 3 years now and she has two kids of her own, a 10 year old daughter and a 5 year old son. That brings the count to 5 kids, 11, 10, 7,6 and 5. So of course this last few months with 3 businesses, 5 kids and no time at all, we added a puppy into the mix! Nobody said I was smart!
There has been an insane amount of highs and lows that the PBL helped me get through and I can’t be more thankful I had this league and the people in it to help me get through it all.
With all that being said, I said in the initial ‘press release’ for the league that “"Our goal is for every single Owner to know they are the reason that our league will succeed…” and right now, I am not a strong enough contributing member of the league and feel like it is time for me to step down from my spot in the Paramount Baseball League.
I met an amazing group of guys who I talked to on a daily basis for a long time and discussed so many things from learning the game more, strategy, real sports, REAL life issues we were going through, etc. I made some real friendships a long the way.
A few seasons back I decided it was best for a new commissioner to step in and Ron was the man to do it and that may have been the best decision I have ever made in the PBL. Ron is absolutely incredible and I cannot wait to keep checking in on the PBL to see how it continues to grow.
I cannot thank him enough for continuing this league. It has to be one of the best OOTP online leagues ever made because of all of you and the General Managers before you. My job was actually pretty easy and fun. We did some experiments throughout the years like Isaac Zevin who acted as a real life agent for the PBL in doing contract extensions, etc. I wish people seen the work we put into him, Finlay and I were spending HOURS coming up with formulas and ways to determine players REAL value. It was crazy, it was exhausting, it was fun as hell and it was the PBL difference.
I wish everyone the best of luck going forward and I do hope one day there may be a spot waiting for me to come back.
Viva la PBL
