Hey Guys,
I am just bored sitting in my hotel room in Troy, OH and figured that I like to crunch numbers. So I decided to do a little comparison on the Star Ratings of the Top players from OOTP18 vs. OOTP19..
Funny, but true fact....
I am sure that everyone was excited, like I was, to see what how much talent your players
got in the new game... Surprise!!! Star rating drop across the board.. I understand that Star
Rating don't really mean that much, but it is what a lot of us base our trades on. And don't tell
me that you don't get excited when your scout finds this gem of a 5 Star talent teenager from
East Jabrew and didn't cost you anything except those millions of dollars that we waste on Scouting Budgets.. FYI- Cardinals only spend $1M every season(Poor team budget) Hahahaha...
Shocking number stats....
OOTP18 OOTP19
5 Star Potential Players 74 players 27 players 4 1/2 Potential Players 139 players 31 players
213 OOTP18 Top players vs. 58 OOTP19 Top players.
What that means is that 155 "Top Players" in the game took Star hits... Shocking!! Disheartening!! Crushed!!
I can't wait to see how these new Star rating effect teams trading top draft picks for good solid veteran player.
Their are a lot less of them now and I am sure that teams are no going to be willing to trade a top pick for a player
that is now a 3 Star rated player.. I am truly saddened that this has occurred.. All the time and seasons that I have
spend rebuilding this broken Cardinals team and farm system may have been for nothing if these players never play to
the potential that was possible in OOTP18.. Sigh!!!!!
The good news is that the drop in Stars didn't effect the players popularity rating with your fans... Happy fans =
more ticket and merchandise sales and keeps that nagging Owner off your back!!!!!
Have a great weekend and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all you lucky dads!!! Kendall

Kendall, nothing has changed. All of the players have the exact same ratings, with the exception of pitcher movement. Their potential has not changed at all. The game is just doing a much better job of attaching a Star Rating to that player. As for the draft, I would be beyond shocked if we see the same number of 4 and 5 star players available, but that does not mean the quality of the players will be lower.
The star ratings now seem to come closer to doing what they were always supposed to do. For example, there were countless 4, 4.5 and 5 star second basemen in the past. This means that the star ratings meant nothing. If there were 40 players that were the best second basemen in the league, if you could be considered one of the best players at your position in the league and not be good enough to start, it meant nothing. It has never meant anything and I have spent many years cringing at trades where people have been "star dazzled." And let's not forget Left Field, where there were roughly hundreds of players who were among the best players in the league at their position.
Player's attribute ratings and their stats have always been what matters, star ratings are a decent way to take a quick glance at a roster but are mostly cosmetic and should never be the driving rationale behind a transaction. It just looks, to me, like the game is doing a much better job of assigning star ratings now.

I would be thrilled if we shut off the star ratings in the PBL. They have always been an unreliable measurement of a players ability.
Personally I feel that the stars are the training wheels for new players who don't understand or don't want to put in the effort to review and analyze the individual's attributes, so they look up the top of the page and go Oooooo Four and a half stars on a player with 5 contact or 4 control and they think they have a superstar.
The PBL is a league of veteran/experienced GMs. We do not need the distraction of the stars

Star ratings are part of the game. They exist, in my mind, in order to help organize and gather information. Without those star ratings, this starts looking alot like work instead of fun. Having more information isn't a bad thing, but as many have said many times, using star ratings as a definitive piece of information is a mistake. They are just part of the puzzle.

I side with Earl in that stars are a quick way to organze, but not the definitive measurement of a player.
Might just be my team, but I have had some 1-1 star players that have held their own CUMBERLA, I have had some/several 1-5 Pot stars that have never panned out and have eventually reverted to 1-1 and have been released.
If you don't like them, DON'T let them factor into your decision process, but i would prefer to have that "executive summary" myself.
And it's curious how many really GOOD teams are stacked with 4-4 and 5-5 players 😂😉😎

I dont use the stars at all to value players but other people definitely do and it means that nobody has been interested in Pero Covi when I have brought him up in trade talks.

Two words: Dick "MotherFucking" George! Actually... Looks like three (assuming the "nick-name" requires a hyphen)... And could even be argued it four separate words if it doesn't? However, I still more than understand this vivid contribution to the thread!
