I need to come clean with something I probably should have communicated right up front. Within days of taking over as commissioner it was brought to my attention that the league modifiers for PBL had been set to custom settings for several seasons. These settings were a result of quite a bit of research done by someone outside of our league and were meant to make the league more realistic. It was brought to my attention because some bad side effects had been observed. Specifically a significant drop in strikeouts and home runs and a rise in stolen base percentage.
After discussing options and doing some research I made the decision to update the modifiers to represent 2016 MLB numbers. (This is the default setting for OOTP. It is updated with each release). At least one GM has already noticed changes in the numbers this season already and questioned the source.
I am a bit embarrassed to bring this up. Transparency is a critical priority for me in this position. I want to apologize to the league and assure you that this is not in any way representative to how I have or will introduce change. Honestly I did not expect the changes to have much of an affect. In hindsight making those changes on the fly without communication was irresponsible and reckless.
Once it became apparent to me what had occurred and possible impacts it was obvious that I needed to let everyone know what happened immediately. If anyone is a savvy GM that has noticed these trends in the league and made roster decisions and adjustments as a result of them, please make your case to me and we can explore if there is any compensation that would be appropriate.
The main thing I was people to take out of this is that everyone can expect an increase in HR and K along with a decrease in stolen base percentage across the board.
Again, I ask your patience and understanding as your noobie commissioner experiences some growing pains. I hope I have displayed some strengths that I bring to the league as well and definitely hope the strengths outweigh the mistakes. While I will never claim to be perfect I can assure you that I will continue to grow from my experiences.
