To get Donaldson, i'd imagine it would have to be a massive overpay. The fanbase in Toronto would burn the Jays management at the stake if they trade Josh. I don't really agree with that sentiment, but that's the feeling i get.

I get it but Toronto's fan base needs to understand they aren't going to catch up to the Yankees, Red Sox and even Orioles.
It'd be a perfect way to retool for them for the future.

games aren't played on paper. Having good teams in your division doesn't mean giving up or rebuilding. I'll never buy in to that strategy. Make good baseball decisions, and compete.

I don't really agree with that sentiment, but that's the feeling i get. It's like the game. When a player's popularity is through the roof, the fan-base reacts emotionally if they are traded/released. It's funny, because when we acquired him from the A's in the Brett Lawrie deal, fans screamed why did Lawrie get traded! Half of our fan-base didn't know how good Donaldson was, when he was on the west coast. Only the true fans of baseball were aware. It's a SMART move to move Donaldson now, as he is scheduled to be a FA at the end of the 2018 season. If a few young pieces come this way, it sets us up as a re-tool when Bichette/Guerrero jr come up in 2019. i love Donaldson, but i love the Jays winning games and going deep into the playoffs, more. I hope he does get moved.

Thanks Fin!
The hard part for Toronto IMO is judging if they will be competing during the early years of his deal. I honestly don't think they will, which is why I believe a deal makes sense.
That doesn't discredit the Blue Jays future, but his best years will be the early ones.
I've always liked Donaldson and thought the A's didn't get much for him. I wanted STL to pull the trigger on him but I believe Oscar Taveras was still alive so the front office felt they had that power bat already.
