Referencing an early thread I created about a finance glitch that occurred about 3 sims ago where $24 million appeared in my scouting and development budgets, the commissioner suggested I create a poll asking the other PBL GMs if they thought he should go in and add $24 million to my finances to restore me to what my finances were before the glitch. He said there is no way for him to adjust my budgets but he could put the money into my available cash so that the glitched amount is restored.
I know there is no way for me to prove that I didn't put these amounts into these budgets at the start of the season or that I missed it when my owner put money into these budgets before the season, but I can assure you that up until 3 sims ago these budgets were set to zero. But, again, there is no proof. Just have to take my word on it.
So, please take a moment to consider how you might feel if you were in my shoes and a financial glitch caused you to lose $24 million making it impossible to claim guys off waivers, sign free agents to help your team, or sign guys to extensions.
Sorry to vote no brother but I do not like the position this puts the commissioner in or the precedent it sets.
I understand. $24 million in the red because of some kind of glitch is gonna be very difficult to overcome not just this season but next as well. I hope something similar never happens to you or anyone else.

Best possible scenario would be to have an earlier backup and send it and a current backup to OOTP for a look to see if there is a coding issue with the game.
Get Real! Future draft pick/PTBNL trades happen now. Why hide it! Post trades & notify Commissioner when future pick/player to be exchanged.
Peter has come to me with this issue and I cannot fix scouting or development budgets this point in a season so I did suggest he bring it to the board because I did not think it is the right thing to do to change the money and play with a balance sheet without the approval of the league.
I completely understand Peter's frustration but I have to act with the integrity of the entire league in mind and that is why I wanted to bring it public. OOTP finance is a fickle thing and nobody got screwed worse than me with a $48-million budget cut after the season started. I brought it up to the league and they felt that it would be a mistake to fix it so I left it alone. I still get pissed off but again the opinion of the league is most important.
The Cubs are currently projected to lose money this year, like the Red Sox. The projected budget next year is projected to drop by $2 million which isn't too bad. A playoff appearance could help keep budget where it is at.
Trades still can be done to help your push to the playoffs and if you want to claim a player on waivers, we can figure that out as well. I don't think it's going to be as catastrophic as you think.

I had to vote no on this. While I certain that Peter is being completely honest about what he believes happened, I am worried about the next time a GM comes forward with a budget issue like this, do we just automatically make adjustments? because if we do it once we have to be fair and consistent going forward. This could create the type of issues/fights that could tear the league apart.
Please don't think I am unsympathetic to your situation. I haven't had a penny to spend on free agency on wavier pickups for 2 seasons now, I understand the frustration.
I great enhancement to the game would be the ability to view budget pages from previous dates like you can view standings. This way we could back and see what happened and when.

It's one thing to have your owner cut your budget. Y some huge amount and another to have some random glitch drop $24 million into budgets that had been 0 for the first month of the season. The first one is annoying but part of the game. The second completely random and utterly ridiculous and destroys franchises. But it is what it is. I can see that my fellow GMs don't particularly care about my financial issues. As long as it doesn't affect them or their teams it's not a big deal. And I get that to a certain degree. And I get not setting a bad precedent but I can tell you with near 100% certainty that if this happened to any of you, you would be just as disgusted by it as I am. And you would seek help getting it resolved just as tenaciously as I have. I hope none of you guys have to go through this mess. It sucks.

It is because I am concerned with the financials of the league and not just one team that I voted the way I did. If we knew what happened and could put a one time fix in I would say lets fix your situation. But we have had something similar with Boston and we did not adjust.
And what if 4 teams have something happen next week, should we manually adjust them and would we even know the right amount to adjust?
If it happens to me you are right I will be pissed, but I don't think manually adjusting is the right way to go with all of the problems it can create.
Please don't take the vote as indifference or personally against you.

If this was directed specifically at my comment, then I would be happy to expand on it? If this was just a general reaction to the vote totals, then I'll leave it alone.
Either way, good luck rest of the way!

It's a tough one and I'm sorry to vote 'against' Peter as (in my short time back) he seems like a good guy and a good GM. As others have said the problem is the precedent changing financials in game would set.
In my years of playing OOTP I've never seen this problem just 'happen' and the proof that this is some kind of bug doesn't seem very clear.
I do know that the game does some funky things, especially around finances and free agency. We've probably all had weird things happen, or had problems that we don't think are of our own making - but we all play the same game with the same problems. Making such a big change to finances in game for one GM on the say of that GM means we'd all be looking for the same, and it'd be almost impossible to say 'no' to any well meaning GM when they ask for a correction to be made.
e.g. right now my ticket sales are currently down by 30% on last year despite LAA having the best record they've had at this stage in years, very high fan interest etc' - I'm losing money big time. Is this a bug? Can I have my ticket sales adjusted please?... just a (true) example of what we may run in to.
Again, this isn't anything to do with Peter or whether I believe him or not etc' - it's just down to the precedent that it sets for the league.

If it happened to 4 other GMs then we have a bug or glitch that we can say to OOTP Marcus or whoever and say "hey this problem happened to 5 GMs this season. There is an obvious bug please fix it." When just one guy says "this happened to me" no one really cares. Folks just think the guy either is lying or simply wasn't paying close enough attention.
David, my comment was directed at the 12 GMs who voted "no." I figured there would be more than one person who voted that something should be done to help me out of a situation I didn't create.
It's fine. Obviously nothing is going to be done to help me get this resolved so I just have to deal with it.

Peter,
You are taking it personally and that could not be further than the case at hand. Everyone, myself included, is sympathetic to what happened and nobody is saying you are making this up. The problem is what if we bring a new GM in and he makes the same claim but isn't very honest and how do we know? Can we say no? What if he is honest and we showed we did this before but will not for him? It's the precedent its setting going forward.
To answer your question if it happened to 4 teams, I think its something to look into but not rush into change. If it happened to 4 teams, that means it has happened 4 times out of almost 1,000 chances (32 years in PBL x 32 teams).

Not a criticism of you Peter, in any way! And nothing implied by this comment at all!
But I have never seen this, or heard of this, in any league I have been in. I freely admit that I am not a veteran of OOTP since the first version, but have been in many leagues for many years and simply have never heard of this. I was just trying to be nice in my previous comment that maybe a backup be sent to the developers.
To me, these two budgets are not related to Boston (or anyone else) having their budget raised or slashed by the owner. Nor is it related, I would think, to the owner also adjusting the development and scouting budgets. All of that happens prior to the season. And I'll leave it there.
Stay in first for the rest of the season and things will work out!
e.g. right now my ticket sales are currently down by 30% on last year despite LAA having the best record they've had at this stage in years, very high fan interest etc' - I'm losing money big time. You can adjust your ticket "price," which usually impacts you ticket revenue. In fact if you adjust the price and then jump to the accounting screen you can usually see the impact immediately, then try another number if you like until you maximize things. The further into the season, obviously the impact would be lessened because of the games remaining, but try it.
Not directly related to your quote, but through I would toss it out there anyway.
