Notice to the league, be advised of changes in how I plan better and more accurately manage compensation picks going forward.
A big shout out to Anthony for teaching Derek and I how to modify and import the draft order. This is the second season that we are utilizing that option. It works very well. As a result I have the opportunity to better track and manage the compensation picks.
One draw back of importing the draft is for compensation picks to work correctly in the application the import needs to happen extremely early. I believe before Free Agents file. This is far earlier than I want to import it because so much can change between those times. As a result of this no picks will be entered into the application with the compensation flag on. The fallout is that unsigned compensation picks will always roll over in the game. I will post all compensation picks awarded and forfeited each season. Compensation information on the boards will trump the in game draft order.
A second change is that I will start tracking compensation over the first 5 rounds of the draft instead of just the first 2.
There are a couple of advantages to this approach. The biggest one is this obsoletes the reason for our rule to not trade compensation picks. That rule was in place because of a short coming in the application that forced us into an ugly manual workaround to handle traded comp picks. We will discuss removing this from the rule book in the next PBL Rules Committee session but I expect it to be a slam dunk.
Let me know if there are any questions or concerns. Long live the PBL.
