Does anyone know, for sure, what the 'cutoff' dates are for a player to be on a playoff roster? If I trade for an injured player at the deadline, put him on the 40-man and the DL, then put him on the 25-man ML roster in early September, would he be able to play in the playoffs? Thanks!

I think you should be good, as I understand it players on the 25, 40 (new CBA) and DL as of Aug 31 are eligible.

Thanks...that sounds right MLB-wise, but I don't think OOTP is up to date on the change to the CBA. In my other league the Commish went into settings to add the 40-man part. No one really seems to know for sure...a lot of guys think that with the current OOTP settings a player has to be on someone's 25-man on Aug. 31 to be playoff eligible...being on the 40-man, and/or the DL on that date might not be enough for playoff eligibility.

Honestly, i dont think anyone really knows for sure, as this an area that confuses everyone in OOTP. I've seen things that make no sense when it comes to playoff rosters..... Lets get 3d highlights in OOTP19 though!!!!

The original scenario, with players on the 25-Man roster or on the DL as of end of August would be the safest plan. Should you have an injury late in the season and send another player to the DL, I believe there is a chance to replace that player because of injury, but the "no one knows" for sure statement is also valid. Best to have a pretty solid 25-Man end of August!

The player I'm wondering about would be on the DL, but (obviously) not on the 25-man, on Aug. 31.

I will step out on that limb. I would go with 25-Man and the DL as being OK for the post-season. The 17 manual does not have info for this (only adding to the confusion). I might have posted this before, but here's the blurb directly from the manual, and what you will find in the post-season in game. Hope it helps!? Addition: This might also be something to actually TEST yourself in a solo game, so you are completely satisfied with the results, just to be sure?

Having trouble making trades work financially, anyway, so it might not even come into play, but from everything I'm finding out, OOTP is going by the CBA agreement that was in place before the 40-man thing was added, which would make any player on the 25-man OR the DL as of Aug. 31, playoff eligible.

David is right on. Playoff eligibility is defined in the current version of OOTP as players on the 25-man roster or on the major league DL as of 8/31. This is the basis for the playoff eligible roster. If I remember correctly, at the end of August GMs will be notified via an in-game message that explains eligibility. In September and during the playoffs, playoff eligible players will be highlighted in the roster view via a special symbol.
For the playoff roster, a GM may select players from the playoff eligible roster. If injuries occur during the playoffs, roster moves may only be made between series. Replacement players may only be selected from the playoff eligible roster.
Special note: Through personal experience in my other league, I verified that a player who was on the DL in August and then sent to AAA on a rehab assignment that was in effect as of 9/1 is NOT eligible for the playoffs. To be eligible, a player must be on the active roster or on the DL.
