I asked a while back about player positions and how to force it so that PLAYER A was always used at 2B but never used at SS. I think the recommendation was to use the "SET GAME STRATEGY" option and use the drop down box to select the position I wasted him forced to play. I did that for PLAYER A during the preseason but he was used in several games this season at SS. I don't want him ever used at SS. Any other ways I can force it to only play guys at the positions I choose?

How is your depth chart setup?

How is your depth chart setup? Are you referring to the lineup tabs? I have those filled in with where I want guys to play. I have Crittenden playing 2B but he was used in 2 games at SS. I don't have him at SS on my depth charts so I don't know why the AI used him in that role. The AI also used Ames at SS (-3 ZR rating this season) but I had him "forced" at 2B only.
Maybe I don't have enough depth so the AI uses guys at odd positions when there are no other options available??

That's what I'm getting at. Typically your lineups and depth charts are followed, but what happens if your starter is tired and your back up is day to day or is filling in form someone else that is out/tired? The AI will use someone that has that ability to play the position. Unless you have crazy depth I don't think there is anyway to fully prevent the AI from playing someone at a position that they technically could play.

I'll have to look it all over tonight. Just hate to lose games because the AI is using guys who really should not be playing a particular position.

Guys need time off and small injuries occur from time to time. The Rays explained this pretty darn well. Do you set your lineups?

Yes. I set the lineups. Have to review the depth chart today.

Yes. I set the lineups. Have to review the depth chart today. There's also a setting on the lineup page that allows players to be subbed in for regulars based on the depth chart. If you would like to manage players rest yourself, you can turn that feature off.

You arent losing games because of this. It happens to everyone in OOTP. As others have said. Certain things happen in a game. Pinch hits, injuries, other subs. The cpu will pretty much use the best available candidate in each in every situation, and that might be a horrible defender playing a position for a few innings because of a lack of choices.
We are all in the same boat, so i wouldn't worry to much about it.

We are all in the same boat, so i wouldn't worry to much about it. I think it's very possible to lose games because of this. In four games this season, the AI has used Cameron Ames at SS. Ames is a 2B but I was hoping to turn him into a SS during Spring training. At the end of Spring training he had earned a rating of 1 at SS. I do not want him playing SS yet but that's what happened. The AI put him at SS for 4 games. He currently owns a -3.5 ZR rating this season at SS. My limited understanding is that this means my guy didn't get to all the balls he should have or could have, meaning innings went on or runs scored that might not have had I played a guy with a better SS rating. Also, my understanding is that -10 ZR means a loss. So when I look at my fielding and add up all the ZR ratings if I am at -10 that means my guy(s) cost me a win with their fielding, even if they had very few or no errors. They can be a good fielder (few errors) and still have a poor ZR rating.
I don't know. Just curious if anyone else noticed this or not and how I can prevent it as much as possible.

The way to prevent it is to have your backup second baseman be your backup shortstop as well. There isn't enough room on a team to have backups at every spot. If a player on your team is not good enough to start and can only play one position, and that player isn't a catcher, that player basically has no value.

You also have Ames set as your backup for SS
