Enabling the "firing" option is an interesting idea, but I see no need for firing in the PBL. Each season we typically have at least two or three vacancies. If a GM wishes to "fire" himself and sign on as the GM of a different team, he may do so today with no change in rules.
Personally, I enjoy being the GM of one team for the long term. Following, over many seasons, players I drafted, developed, obtained in trades, and signed as free agents. Planning for long-term success of the franchise. Assembling the best roster I can to support the plan. Executing the plan, evaluating the results (what worked; what did not work), and modifying the plan. Watching the history of the franchise evolve over time. All this and more.
Although the Red Sox are my favorite team, I like the city of San Francisco and the Giants. In real life, I also follow several additional teams. Secondary favorites, if you will. If I was fired as GM of the Giants, I could be happy becoming the GM of quite a few teams. However, about 1/3 of the franchises are franchises in which I have no interest. None. If I had to take on one of those franchises, my enjoyment and interest would suffer. True, the PBL is a universe apart from real life, but the PBL franchises were originally based on the real life franchises. For me, at least, real life likes and dislikes overlap with the PBL.
In addition, as several GMs have mentioned, owner goals are quirky. I do not favor adding a personal goals feature, and the manual administration it would require, as a work-around "outside" of the game.
In short, I think we should continue with the option to allow a GM to move to a vacant team if he wishes to do so. GMs who wish to change franchises can. GMs who wish to stay with one team can. Overall, I believe this an approach that accommodates a wide variety of GM preferences, allows a GM to change teams, and minimizes the potential risk of decreased enjoyment of the PBL.

Again, forget I even made the comment. :-) I think this is one idea that would never find consensus, and might even cause some to bolt. Truly think the best option would be to start with something well thought out in place and allow people to opt-into the league instead of trying to force something. And, as I have mentioned, I was move focused on just the fact that each market, owner and franchise is different and has different budget, personnel and owner challenges in the article posted, as it should be. Not everyone can or should have unlimited resources (or even a level playing field). That would be pretty boring, in my opinion (only)!! Let's move on and focus on the PBL WORLD SERIES!!! I think its a great thing to bring up, all topics are and then you get a better understanding of what works and what will not. Definitely something that would need to be introduced at the start of a league in my opinion.
