Spring Training is here and it's that time of the year to tell the PBL about your team and the moves you made during the off-season!
Has OOTP 23 changed how you build your roster or how you run your organization?
For many seasons, the Giants have successfully employed the opener-follower approach with some pitchers. But not now. The game no longer (tested once during ST) permits it. So be it. We will pursue another approach with some of our SPs.
What changes from the 2064 roster do you think will have the biggest impact in 2065?
The most significant change for position players is the replacement of Juan Gutierrez with Tyler Lumby. Both provide speed on the bases, SBs, and outstanding fielding in the OF. Lumby should provide a much needed power bat. Further, Lumby is extremely popular with fans, which will keep their interest and sell tickets while the Giants continue to rebuild.
On the mound, fans and experts alike are very excited about SP Hideki Nakashima (#58 PBL prospect). Nakashima excelled last season in AAA and during his September call-up. The durable southpaw begins his rookie season as the Giants #2 starter. We are looking for big things from Hideki.
What are you most excited about in the upcoming season?
We are most excited about what we anticipate to be an excellent rookie season by Nakashima.
Also, we are excited that the 2065 season will soon be history. We are looking forward to the 2066 and 2067 seasons when several top prospects (see below) will be ready to burst onto the PBL scene. 2066 can't arrive soon enough for us.
Who do you predict will win your division this year?
Good question. It will not be the Giants. We will compete as best we can as we continue to rebuild, but we will not top the other three in the NL West. However, we did manage to squeeze out 74 wins last season.
I will pick the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Who is your biggest rival? Are you theirs?
Again, the teams in the NL West are our biggest rivals. But we probably are not theirs. They regularly beat us, series after series. This has to change.
What prospects in your organization do you see making an impact in the next few seasons at the PBL level?
In addition to rookie Hideki Nakashima, infielder Jason Lacy will make his debut this season.
But the best is yet to come. Playing in AAA this year, probably ready for the Giants next year, will be:
And at AA, probably ready in two seasons, are:
We are excited to see what the future holds for the next generation of our team.
Are there any players on your roster that are close to reaching a career milestone this year? Examples include 200 home runs, 1000 hits, 100 wins, etc.
Alfonso Salgado, our veteran captain, already has achieved several significant milestones. 2500+ hits. 1100+ runs scored. 1100+ RBI. 100+ triples. He is unlikely to reach 3000 hits, but he continues to play and contribute. If he learns the secret of Duane Hanson's health program, perhaps he will.
And finally, of course, what is your PBL 2065 World Series prediction?
Cincinnati Reds defeat the Houston Astros in 7 games. Let's see Sean and Shane battle it out again.
